With many character meet photographers being replaced by photo boxes it got me to thinking. How many people purchase the pictures taken by the Disney photographers? So far (thankfully!!) it 'only' appears the replacements are happening with character meets, but I'm wondering if it was because people just don't purchase the pictures now that they can capture many with their phones?

I actually purchase PhotoPass for the RIDE photos. We do very few meet and greets, now that my kids are older.

We have never purchased any photos but we are going to Disney on our honeymoon and we are going to do several upgrades to our vacation. Photo pass is one of them along with a moderate level resort, Disney dining plan, and a behind the scenes tour of some kind. We also want to spend 10 days instead of our usual 7. Hopefully, we can swing all that.

During an average year (while not at Disney) there are very few photos taken with all 5 of us in them and almost none of just me and DH. So Photo Pass once every few years (which is how often we go to WDW) is my excuse/opportunity to get some family and couple photos. My 13 year old still loves character meets, so those are usually some of the best photos from the whole trip. For now we're still purchasing, but we'll see what happens with the boxes. If Disney starts to replace too many photographers with boxes the picture quality will suffer and I won't be willing to keep paying the current price.

For my visits in 2017 and 2018, I was on a platinum AP, which includes free photo downloads. So I made full use of that. Prior to that, I never had an AP and never purchased Memory Maker. For character meets, we just asked the "handler" CM to take photos with either a phone or a point and shoot camera and those were more than fine for us. I did purchase a single download of a photo because when I saw it online it made me laugh and it was just one taken by a Photo Pass photographer (nothing on my phone or camera).

Our typical trip is two adults for maybe 3 days, so the cost of Memory Maker as a separate product just does not make sense to us. I don't think that changes with the unfortunate addition of the automated cameras. In fact, I think it makes it easier to pass on it. Now, when we are on an AP and the photos are already included, we will have tons of photos taken and make good use of that AP benefit.

I purchased Memory Maker once but by the time I added the cost of making a photo book and shipping it just wasn't worth the cost to me.

I will say one of my very favourite pictures is from Seven Dwarfs and I purchased that one individually. It was worth every penny!!

Like you @Rach3975, many pictures are of my daughter alone but at WDW the CMs (or other guests) are always so willing to take pics with my phone that I hand them that and end up with lots of pictures of the 2 of us together!

I'm glad to see that many do purchase Memory Maker and that they find it worth the cost. Hopefully the more people that purchase it, the more likely they are to keep Disney Photographers in the parks!!

We bought an annual pass for the first time this year so we stop for a photo here and there.
After this year, it will likely be a few years before we head back so we will gather up all the photos we can on our December trip!
Previously, for short trips of 4-5 days, we just handed off a camera to the photopass photographer or another guest to have a few of us together.

Special snowflake here- I buy the Memory Maker when I'm not traveling with an AP holder or someone who is friends with an AP holder (who is willing to download the pictures for us).

Our trips have all been 7 days of longer, so it is definitely worth buying the Memory Maker for us.

Our past three trips, we've purchased the Memory Maker. On our most recent trip, I think we would've come close to breaking even just by downloading individual photos, so we'll probably skip getting it in the future and just purchase a couple of individual pictures we really like.
