Polite Pig

One more question--
Do you have to have a reservation if you just want to get take-out?

ETA: Never mind. I see that it is a quick service.

We generally eat there at off hours, about 2 and never had trouble finding a table inside or out.
One of our favorite QS in DS.

So we decided to keep our Whispering Canyon Cafe reservation for the day after we try Polite Pig. We always get the skillet at WCC. Would that be too much like Polite Pig?

I agree - it's our favorite QS. We've never not been able to get a table, but we go during the week, not weekends.

Both are meat heavy, but I've never thought of them as similar. Polite Pig is more on trend, with sides like roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower, whereas WCC is more classic comfort food ish. I'm not sure I'm describing it well, but they definitely aren't a similar experience in my opinion. The food is distinct, as is the atmosphere. Also, at PP you order at the counter, find a table, and your food is delivered to you, unless you sit at the bar in which case the bartender takes your order. WCC is table service and fits in nicely with the vibe of the Wilderness Lodge lobby.

This is from the Polite Pig website:
Butcher Board: polite pork, smoked chicken, prime brisket & cheddar sausage with slaw, pickles, 2 cornbread's and a choice of 2 market sides
It also states you can add ribs.

This is from Whispering Canyon Cafe's website:
The Carnivore
House-made Cornbread with Honey Butter, Maple-Chipotle Barbecued Slow-smoked Pork Ribs, Oak-smoked Beef Brisket, Barbecued Pulled Pork, Citrus-Herb Chicken, Country Potatoes, Buttered Corn, Charred Carrots (Price per person)

This is a short two-day trip. We've been to WCC many times before and love it. We really want to try Polite Pig though. Looking at the websites, it just seems they are almost identical! I hate to miss WCC, but I don't want to eat the same meals two days in a row. LOL!

I enjoyed Polite Pig the first time we went so much I went back the day we left. There was a line but it moved quickly and we didn’t have trouble finding a table either time. I am pretty sure I used a Disney GC.

Yes. Based on that, it does sound very similar. I just find the two experiences very different. Maybe it's the differing atmospheres? My DH and I like to go to Polite Pig and sit at the outdoor bar on a sunny day. At the bar, the bartenders serve you and make conversation. We can sit, have drinks and people watch on a busy day, outdoors at Disney Springs. We've also done it where we order at the counter. It's not the same that way and we didn't enjoy it as much. Just my experience. At WCC, you're indoors, in the snuggly feeling dark Wilderness Lodge. It's a full service, table service meal. The food seems heavier to me at WCC. Maybe for me it has more to do with time of year, weather, and feeling? I don't know. They are different experiences to me, and despite the above menu descriptions, I find the food to be different, taste different. We only stay at Wilderness Lodge in the winter. We've had some very cold weather on our winter trips. We don't go to Wilderness Lodge to eat if we aren't staying there. We tend to go to Polite Pig on warm, sunny, days when we want to be outside, and eat outside. Just, different situations that evoke different memories for me maybe?
OP- in your case it sounds like you should choose just one based on your concerns, the short duration of your trip, and the myriad of restaurant choices at WDW.

Thank you. I guess I'm thinking of it just considering food. We always go to WCC no matter where we stay. It's one of our favorites as far as food, atmosphere, and price. Due to Covid, we have not been eating out much. We decided to keep this one and only reservation because it's at a slow time (late lunch) and it's a wide open space with seating that is pretty spaced out. All of our other meals we plan to get to go and take back to our DVC studio or eat outside. We will be going to DS one of our days and thought Polite Pig would be a good place to get takeout, but then I started thinking about how similar the menus look. Thanks for responding to my post!

No, not at all. Polite Pig is a BBQ joint and not just a grilled meat place like WC. Even though they have the same type of food, their flavors are completely different.
