Policy on Broken Kids?

My 7 year old daughter broke her arm today! Aside from the normal broken arm precautions (no swimming, etc.) I was wondering if Disney World has any policies regarding rides. Her Orthopedist says it is fine for her to ride the rides, but, I was concerned that there were policies against it at Disney. This is her first trip to Disney World (we will be there June 8). I didn't know if there were any restrictions on children riding any rides if they have a cast. Does any one know?

She actually could swim if you got her a xerosock. It's a plastic sleeve with a little valve at the top where you suction all the air out. My daughter used one 2 summers ago for 2 weeks at the beach. She did not get a drop of water or a grain of sand in her cast. Good luck.

I don't believe there are any restrictions...only rides I would personally worry about are things like the roller coasters where to be safe she would need to hold on with 2 hands or at least have the option to use 2 hands if she needed too kwim? Poor kid, I am sure she is bummed. I 2nd the xerosock, great invention and I know many who have used it successfully. good luck.

My DD broke her wrist one week to the day we were to leave for Disney. She was in a heavy plaster cast up to her shoulder. The only rides she couldn't go on were due to the height restrictions. She was 4 and very short at the time. This was 16 years ago but I can't see that it would have changed. She went on Big Thunder Mountain RR and loved it. She even held her casted arm up as high as she could. We have lots of pictures of Mickey and friends signing her cast.

Ask your ortho dr to put on a waterproof cast. My ds11 has broken his arms 3times. Everytime we got a fiberglass type with a special bubble-wrap stuff inside that is allowed to get completely wet and submersed. Water just runs out near his fingers when he hangs his arm down. It was a little extra copay, maybe $20 but so worth it. This was with casts that go below and above the elbow.
Last time he fell off monkey bars 3 weeks before our 1st Caribbean cruise. We have pictures of him with our underwater camera snorkeling and paddling around like a little fishy with his cast on.
Also keeps the skin underneath from getting flaky and scanky.
I know my SIL got the same thing for my neice when she broke her leg and arm another time. I think all orthos should use it.

Even if you can't get one in time, she can still go on rides. Anything that you really have to hold on tight has added restraints too.
Good luck and have a great trip!!
