We want to buy a portable DVD player for the car, since we are driving to WDW. Thought this could entertain our 2 yr old daughter. We saw a Polaroid 8" screen at Sams Club and wanted to know if anyone else has this DVD player and do you like it. Is Polaroid a good brand for DVD players?

We have a Polariod brand regular DVD player and haven't had any problems with it (6 years now or so).

I'd like to hear about the portable DVD player.. we've been thinking about getting one.

We just bought the same one at Sam's 2 weeks ago. Our dd is 3 and we used it on our beach trip last week, and will use it for our Disney trip in December. I think it has a great picture, and dd loved it. It really kept her entertained on the 7 hour drive. This one is the only one I could find with the bag to put it in to strap on the headrest and it has the anti-shock protection. I never saw the image shake or falter with any bumps in the road. The only problem I had with it is that it is a pain to take the player out of the bag, change the dvd, put it back in the bag, etc. (all from the front seat :) ).

I think you will be happy with this purchase!
edited to say, my name is Lori also, and my dd is Rachel too!! :teeth:

We've had one for couple of years now and it's been great! (I bought mine at Best Buy...I'm sure it's gone down in price some.) We have SO gotten our use out of it and more. Definately worth it! :thumbsup2

We had one! Please don't allow your child to hold it it their lap. Our DD was burned by another Polaroid model that we purchased at Sams. The burns were bad enough that we contacted the comsumer product safety commission about it. We recently purchased another one (an RCA I think) from Sams and it has been great so far. :confused3

We have one. I got a great deal on it. Someone posted on the Dis on how to get one from Office Depot for $55. There were rebates and special involved. Anyway, after purchasing it, I read reviews on the internet that were really bad. I was worried, but we've had it for 2 months now and no problems. I read on the internet that you have a 50/50 chance of getting a good one.

Yes, it does tend to get warm...we've just had our youngest DD put a blanket under it, but I will certainly look out for that. Thanks SO much for the info...

We have a Polaroid portable dvd player. Ours plays DVD's, music cd's, and picture cd's. We got it a KMart (it was a discontinued model) in May 2006. It has been fine so far.

I have 2 different portable dvd players and both are excellent. The Polaroid one we got last Xmas at Circuit City. It's an 8" swivel screen. It works great both my 10 yo DD and DH use it frequently and had no problems. It came with a bag that goes over the head rest (you can fold it up), but as the other poster mention it can be a pain to change the DVD so we got a DVD bag (made by Phillips) at Wal Mart that hangs in the center of the 2 front seats for $15.

The other DVD player is 4 yrs old and is an Initial IDM-1731. That thing has been dropped a few times, kicked repeatedly by my DD and it keeps on going. We have to replace the car adapter cord, but it still works ither than that.

Both have been pretty reliable and life savers for those long trips!

We have the Panasonic portable DVD/CD player, model LS90. It is a 9" screen, and is extremely durable, and has a 6 hr battery. (which was nice as not all of them lasted that long before having to be recharged). We got a good deal on it at Best Buy and have had it about 5 months. It has been great so far.

We had the same one and it worked great on the plane (need headphones on plane) and in the car. But then son lost his backpack with it inside at Orlando Airport...never to be seen again :sad2:

We have this DVD player, and it does work great. However, my DD4 decided to try and put her underwear inside, and the cover broke. Polaroid will not fix this, but would replace it for $95. I didn't pay for this one, so we are currently DVD player-less.

I don't know if it's the same one (I think DD's might be 7") anyway, Santa brought it last year for DD. We haven't had any problems with it and it has been dropped on the kitchen floor once, so apparently it's pretty tough.

I'm worried about my 19 month old DS kicking the player and damaging it if it is on the back of a headrest. Anyone know if this would be an issue or not? Are there any players that the DVD player itself is in the front seat while just the screen is on the headrest?

Thanks for the replies. I will buy the Polaroid DVD player. I was also wondering if my dd will kick the DVD player and thought about putting it on the other seat instead.
