For grumpy old men everywhere, I offer this rant:

Just when you thought there weren't enough phone zombies at WDW staring at their screens, this crap comes along. Has anyone seen the video from Central Park of hundreds of lunatics chasing an electronic figment of their imagination?

If you come to WDW just to chase Pokémon, go over to Universal. I hear there's an ultra-rare Poke-turd over there. Go get it!

I guess I don't understand the fascination with this. Then again, I like riding in tea cups and getting pictures with overgrown mice and ducks.

Yeah, God forbid anybody comes to Disney World to use their imagination... :rolleyes2
It's not really using your imagination...

With that said, I don't see an issue as long as people are being responsible and respectful(to include being aware of one's surroundings).

I'm going to move this thread to the community subforum since it's not about trip planning.

I saw quite a bit of people, young and old, playing Pokemon Go last night at DHS while I was there.

But saw many more people changing FP+ while we were waiting out the rain.

Also, I wanted to add that there had been a big display of Pokemon merchandise at one of the stores in Japan at Epcot.

I don't have the link and don't remember where I saw this headline, but it stated that the first major car accident had occurred due to Pokemon GO. Whether this is true or not, I'm not overly surprised. I don't know how Pokemon GO works, but I swear there were two kids in the waiting room of the small medical clinic where I work that were locked to their cell phones reaching out saying things like "There it is. I can almost touch it." I don't know if it was Pokemon GO or not, but it was still strange to see.

The first Pokémon hunter that runs into me at WDW because they can't lift their face from their phone will get an embarrassing earful

On the flip side, I guess that's less people clogging up the ride lines:thumbsup2

My daughter caught a Vaporeon (what all those in the Central Park vid were after) at our local mall so that will at be one less in the crowd if another is found at WDW.

Leaves us much more time to chase around imaginary Disney villains at MK while we play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, which she also loves.

I like Pokemon but I agree with you. I'm not spending over a thousand dollars to play Pokemon. If I'm going to pay for a vacation to Disney, then I'm going to put away my electronics and games and enjoy what Disney has to offer!

Honestly I have been watching while walking around word because I'm playing this game now and realized that honestly I don't see anymore people walking with their phone in front of them then before. It was very common while on the way to a meeting to check your texts or send one, to check personal email on our phones, to look at something else, etc. I have no idea if now people are playing pokemon too or not.

WDW had plenty of people with noses stuckin their phones before and I doubt that many started doing so just because it came out. My DH is addicted to his phone (realized this on our last caribbean cruise when he had to spend most of the time we were in Grand Turk at Margartta ville on his phone. He was suprised that besides the time spent making sure everyone was good back home (Kitties and Humans both) I then turned it back off and went snorkling.

For those who have not seen the zombies....

Time to buy shares in telecommunication companies. They are raking in the data charges!

And data mining. I read an article about a threat from Poodlecorp that they are going to hack, again, the server for pokemon.
