Points

Did you find anything in the paperwork about developer points? I didn't get those so I don't know where in the paperwork they are mentioned. I was among the first to purchase at AKV and if I remember correctly, we had a choice between developer points or an $8/pt discount and I chose the discount. We were all in the same boat as you are: we paid in full in Feb 2007 but couldn't use the points prior to Sep 1st. Those who took the incentive points had points to use in the meantime but they paid full price. There have been so many different incentive deals since then, including some that offered both a price discount and incentive points, but I can't remember what they were offering back in September.

I agree with those who say that financing the purchase is not the answer. Yes Disney has had the use of your money since September but let's say you financed and put the bulk of your purchase money into a CD earning 4% which was probably the best you could have done at that time. Your interest rate from Disney would likely be 10% or higher so you would still be losing out and by a lot more. Your only other option would have been to wait until Kidani opened on May 1, 2009 to make your purchase but given that the price is going up from $104 to $112 on Jan 15th, that would have cost you more as well unless they double the incentives to bring the price back down.
You bought at Jambo House? When I called MS and asked if Jambo House or Kidani Village is one in the same for reservations. He told me yes and no if you bought at Jambo House you can make a reservation if at Kidiani Village no
reservation yet. Going to look at my paperwork one more time:confused: for DP hopefully I can find it:confused3
Thanks to everyone for all the info

Yes, MS gave you correct information. You can make a reservation now but for stays that begin on/after May 1, 2009. You don't have to wait until May 1, 2009 to call to make a reservation for say, Oct 2009. But you cannot use the points for any nights prior to May 1st.

When you purchase DVC, your contract/points are associated with a particular Unit within the resort. At AKV, a Unit typically consists of several rooms or one Grand Villa. When you stay at AKV you are not restricted to staying in the Unit you purchased or even at the resort you purchased. So in a sense, you trade your Unit for someone elses. At the moment, your Unit is still being built so you have nothing to trade. Until you do, you cannot book someone elses room. So that's why you cannot use your AKV points until May 1, 2009 because that is when your Unit will be available for occupancy.

In the long run, it doesn't matter whether you purchased points associated with a Unit in Jambo House or Kidani Village. In the short term it does matter because Kidani is still under construction. My points are associated with a Unit at Jambo House that has an occupancy date of Sep 1, 2007 so even though I purchased in early 2007 I could not use my AKV points until 9/1/07.

Right now Disney is selling Kidani Units with occupancy dates of May 1, 2009 but as sales progress and they begin selling Phase 2, those Units will have occupancy dates of Sep 1, 2009. Anyone purchasing those Units will not be able to use their AKV points until that date, even if it is after May 1, 2009 and Phase 1 of Kidani is open. It all depends on the occupancy date of the Unit you purchase.

If you don't hear back from your guide, try calling MS again to ask whether you have any developer points associated with your account. Developer points are handled differently from regular points and they probably have to dig a little bit to find them.

Thanks to everyone for info.
But heres another question how do you close out thread so I don't get locked out.:)

That only applies to the Rent/Trade Board. Basically, you need to edit the title of the first post in the thread. Go to the first post, click EDIT, when that screen loads, press GO ADVANCED. Edit the thread TITLE by inserting CLOSED as the first word. When the auto program runs, it will read the title, and close the thread as "not charged."

There is no action taken until you have 4 "charged" auto closures on the board, and you'll only lose access on the R/T Board, all other DIS boards will operate normally for you.

Thanks to everyone for info.

No need to have the thread closed. The information is good to see so others who have the same question can get it answered.
