Points Transfer Questions

I may find myself in a situation where I will need to either pay member cash or arrange a points transfer to complete a stay at a non-home DVC resort and I have a few questions.

(I've got the basics about one in or one out per UY, transferred points retain home resort priority and uy, and transferred points can be banked, but not borrowed, etc.). Here are my questions:

1. Has anyone had experience with point transfers through David's or the Timeshare Store? If so, how does it work? I couldn't find anything specific to point transfers on David's website. (Nervous about going the rent/trade board route, and I only personally know one other DVC family and it's unlikely they would be in a position to transfer points.)

2. How likely is it that I could even arrange a points transfer for a small to moderate amount of August or later 2013 UY points in the next few weeks? (Since I'm already in the 7 month window, home resort is not a factor, but if we have to cancel, I would like to be able to bank them or have lots of time to deal with holding status points.)

3. Is there anything else I should be aware of in terms of points transfers?

I would use Disney at $15 is it is a small transfer as most DVC owners will NOT want to burn their one transfer per year on a small transfer.

I don't think any of the brokers will transfer less than 95 points or so

The other option is to simply pay Disney a DVC cash rate discount rather than use points for the missing nights

Unfortunately, I would need more than the 24 one time use points, possibly closer to 50, or, less likely, closer to 125. (Mods, I hope posting those numbers is okay ... Just trying to clarify my situation.)

This brings up another question though, if I am booking using multiple uy points (and multiple subcontracts), can I access more than the 24 one time use points? (Thinking no, but it never hurts to ask.)

Nope. 24 one time extra points per real year total, regardless of number of reservations booked, or "years worth of points used".

DVC wants you to buy more points if you want to use more than 24, that's why the number is set at 24. They will sell you an extra contract if you need 25+. Although depending on home resort and UY the waiting list could be significant.

In my opinion, your best bet is getting a transfer in from another member on the rent/trade board if this is a one time thing. If it is a potential recurring need, buying a direct 50 point add-on could make sense.

Small add-ons are one of the few situations where direct purchase makes reasonable financial sense, as the total dollar difference isn't huge versus resale. Anything over 50, and you're paying a ton for the convenience.

Thanks for the reply; this would likely be a one time thing (if not, more points might indeed be needed). Original plan was to take the trip in August (when I could borrow some 2015 points), but we're trying to make things work for a winter escape instead.
