Points shuffle question

Due to a catostaphic family emergency, I had a last minute cancel for a va ation that was supposed to start tomorrow
. <sob>

member services was really great, and instead of putting the points in holding, they put them back in my account to use as regular points.

So my question here- along with These and points I have booked for a trip in may, I would have enough to reschedule this trip with a 2 bedroom villa in october.

If I cancel the may trip this far out, would I be able to use those points whenever I wanted? Or would they have to go into holding to be used prior to October?

As long as you cancel more than 30 days from the arrival date, the points will NOT go into the Holding Account and will be returned to your account to be used or banked subject to normal deadlines.

The answer to your other questions will depend on your Use Year. If you have an October Use Year, only points valid after October 1 could be used for a trip in October, 2010. If any of the points in your account are banked points (expiring in the 2009 Use Year), then they could not be used for an October, 2010 trip. If your Use Year is later than October or if the points can still be banked, they should be fine for an October trip.

2009 use year (my use year began in October): 132 points available (that I am going to bank)

2010: 110 points available

The trip I have scheduled for May 2010 is using 158 points - 70 of those are from 2009 and the rest are from 2010.

So if I cancel the May trip, I have all my points from 2009 available that I want to bank. I guess the clarification I am looking for is once they are all banked, how long do I have to use them for? I thought that if I banked my available points in 2009 that would make them available for a 2010 use year?

When you cancel the May trip, you will then have (if I am reading correctly), 202 2009 points that you will bank into 2010. That will give you 312 points in your 2010 UY.

However, those 88 points that you borrowed from 2010 into 2009 for the May trip CAN NOT be returned and must be used by September 30th, 2010.

So, either I will plan another trip to not lose the points, or I'll just forfeit them and live with it. Based on everything else going on right now, it's not the end of the world for a one time loss.

Really appreciate the help here. Unfortunately I'm in an emergency situation that happened at the 11th hour and there's not much I can do to change things.

Just wanted to post an update, I figured out how to salvage this. I'm going to upgrade my May vacation to a 2 bedroom in Saratoga Springs, which will salvage these points plus the ones that I currently have in holding which would have expired, so the ones I used from 2010 can go back into my 2010 account. And all's well that ends well, I'll have plenty left over for my luxury girlie trip that is planned in October.

You cannot put the 2010 points back once you borrow them. You can make certain they use those first and then bank the equivalent amount of 2009 points into 2010.

Sorry about your emergency - I had one of those which kept me from going on the week after Christmas trip (booked at 9am eleven months out) this past year. In my case however I sent the rest of the group and dealt with the situation myself. ( 95 yo mother ill after fall and ending up in hospital for other reasons) We have now moved her in with us so no Disney trips planned for anytime in the forseeable future.
