Points show on member site, but no paperwork yet--can we use them?

Our new AKV contract shows up on the website, and the initial $$ has been charged to our credit card, but no paperwork has arrived yet?

Does anyone know: if I call MS will I be able to use those points to book at another resort right now, or do I have to wait for the paperwork to actually be processed??

I believe you can make reservations using those points right now. I'm sure there is some provision for cancelling your reservation if you channge your mind annd don't close.

You can make reservations as soon as you have said you have started the purchasing process (through Disney) - even before you have paid in full, signed the documents, or closed. There are provisions in the contract for possible financial penalties if you have booked/used points and dont end up completing the purchase.

We have started the paperwork to buy SSR, but haven't recieved any information in the mail. After seeing this thread, I just got off the phone with our DVC guide and he gave us our member id. He also said go ahead and start making reservations and gave us the DVC member number. So yes you can start making reservations. I am about to call and make our first reservation!!!

You can also get your member number from member services directly & you can ask them for your pin for internet access at that time (rather than having to wait for it to come in the mail).

MS told me that the AKV points cannot be used yet, not even to use at another resort I was looking for this May's trip and she said no borrowing or booking anywhere until after May 16th!
I hope I just got a "doofus" and someone on the Dis tells me otherwise, so that I can save the $$ and use points instead!

AKV points can't be used (or borrowed) until our "building" opens, supposedly September. So May's trip will be cash. (We are SO spoiled with those relatively small bills at check-out! )

She is not a doofus, she is correct. AKV points cannot be used to book reservations until then AND the stay must be after September 1st. The DVC portion of the resort is not open yet so the points are not available for use until it is.

You may want to search the boards, there is a lot of information here regarding this.

AKV points become valid for use starting Sep 1st. So if you want to use them at another resort, I think you can make the reservation now, but only for stays starting Sep 1st or later.

If you want to use the points at AKV, you cannot book until May 16th.

not to hijack the thread but have a point question. home base 11month window to reserve all others 7month. what does that mean in regards to every one else? is there one day for all dvc members, jan 1 for example, when everyone is trying to make reservations? if my use year is in dec, how does that help me when someone elses use yr is in feb and all the dec 31 rooms are booked??? please explain thank you. i know its probably something simple that i'm just not seeing or understanding. thanks

My guide had useful information on this topic. My guess, which may be overly simplistic, is that it would be more useful to have December so you would have more months in which to use any points in the event that you had a last minute cancellation.

In paragraph 20 of the Purchase Agreement it gives the formula for the proration of dues. I read it as you are to be responsible for the prorated dues for this year at closing.

your use year does not affect how far out you can reserve. Only your home resort determines that date.

That's my PROBLEM! We already have our F&W trip booked and most of our January '08 one, too! Just waiting to book those AKV points!

(By the way, I wasn't calling the first MS rep a "doofus"; I was hoping that she actually WAS one.............then she would have been wrong and I could've happily borrowed! )

texdisneygal, I called my guide on the annual dues, He also was under the impression dues were not due til the end of the year. Its only $174.00but how can they charge you dues before its even open? If the money goes into a holding account before its actually dispersed they should give us back the interest, just my .02
