Points Question

I am hoping to get some guidance for my situation before I brave calling MS. I have a grand villa booked for October right now. I used some banked and some transferred points for the first two days.

As it turns out, some of our potential travel companions aren't coming and having the grand villa isn't necessary. Can I look into downsizing my room, even though the points I used are banked and transferred points?

Regardless of whether or not there is availability, I just wondered if this was allowed?

Yes, you should be able to downsize based on availability (highly unlikely, F&W makes October super popular for DVC)

But what would you do with the extra points before they expire?

Hopefully I can spread them into the rest of the week and then put my current points back into my account for later.

Transferred points can be banked, so if you are still in the banking window for those transferred points, I would just have MS use the borrowed points and then bank the remaining transferred points.


Point "shifting" is not a DVC right. And I think MS would technically have to cancel a day and rebook to get different points applied. (Which means you could loose a day in that minute your room is available). A nice MS agent might involve a supervisor and get it done without fear of a loss, but I don't think a normal agent procedure.

Yes, you should be able to change the reservation if other accommodations are available. It will be a canceling of the GV and booking of the other room. When MS does that you should ask them to use any banked/borrowed points and the transferred points. This will leave the current UY points to be banked or used as you wish.

In your case because you are booking a completely different room accommodation it won't even be reallocating to any other part of the week although that can usually be done also.

I downsized earlier this summer, but, because I was inside the 30 day window the points ended up in a holding account. To keep from losing the points, I had to rent them out.

When in October are you going? We were looking into short trip during Columbus Day and there were no DVC rooms at any resort.
