Points in "reservation" status

I'm kind of confused still on this point - if I make a reservation at the 11 month window and then have to cancel it, do the points go back into my alotment of points for the use year or are they now considered in "reservation" status and have a certain limitation on how they must be used?

"Reservation Status" is when you reserve points outside of the DVC resorts, such as the cruise or a non-DVC resort and then cancel that reservation. If you cancel that reservation, you cannot reuse them for a DVC resort, they must be used outside of DVC. That is because DVC takes those points when you make a non-DVC reservation and gives rooms at a DVC resort to CRO for them to rent and they get the money for them to pay for your non-DVC stay.

So the bottom line is "reservation status" points can only be used outside of DVC and expire at the end of the use year. I have a friend who booked a resort in Colorado with points and then cancelled, so the points were in "reservation status". She then used those points for a stay at the Yacht Club.

But cancellation of a DVC resort would result in the points just going back to my "pool" to be used in the same manner as before with all applicable UYs and such?

Yes, as long as you cancel at least 31 days before the ressie starts and are within your banking windows.
