I know that that the Grand Californian is a much newer and nicer hotel than the Paradise Pier. The problem is that for the same number of points that it takes to rent a standard room at the GC, I can rent a concierge level room at the PP.

I would really appreciate some input on room sizes, concierge services, locations, and anything else that might be of interest.

Thanks!

Well, both hotels have their "own" entrance into Calif. Adventure. But, the location and theming wins "hands down" at Grand Calif. Seriously...I hate to admit it, but I like that resort much better than WL.

Paradise Pier was not a "Disney built" hotel. It was taken over by Disney, but I know that MOST of the rooms (if not all) don't have balconies unless you are pool level and overlooking the pool.

The atmosphere of the two lobbies could not be more different. Paradise Pier is kind of a zoo...with kids and people EVERYWHERE (it is the least expensive hotel on property), and GC is serene, beautiful and elegant. The Storyteller's Cafe it the BEST Disney food I have EVER had anywhere. The character bfast is amazing!!! And, the lunch food is too incredible to explain!! The portions are HUGE (dh and I easily split), and the prices are VERY reasonable. Plus, the restaurant overlooks the beautiful pool. (If you go for lunch, get the Achiote Chicken Melt...it is SOOOO amazing!!)

Plus, the GC is built "over" some of the shops in DTD (which is RIGHT next to the parks) Paradise Pier is about a 5 minute walk from DTD, and some other rooms overlook the Northern CA section of the park, and still others overlook a BEAUTIFUL pool.

So, obviously...if you are used to the elegance of DVC resorts...the only one that can hold a candle to them is GC. I would MUCH rather have a regular room there, than a concierge room at PP...I mean, seriously..."theming" or "bagels"??

Have never stayed at PP so can't really compare. However a couple of plusses for the GC:

1. Has direct hotel entrance into California Adventure.

2. Direct entrance to DD.

The rooms are very nice. They do seem small though, after getting use to DVC rooms. Mini-bar is nice, but as expected, prices are very high.

Actually, Paradise Pier has their own entrance into Calif Adventure as well, it is..."On the pier" near the swings and the "big orange" if I remember correctly.

Definately stay at the GC. It is a beautiful hotel. I've stayed there before and loved it! :lovestruc I stayed off site my last visit to DL (last Dec) and one night just went and sat in the lobby in front of the fire. It was so relaxing and I just enjoyed the whole ambience. Now that I'm thinking about it, I want to stay there again! I need to start making my plans!
