Points each year??

Each DVC resort has a finite number of points. The only way amount of points per night can change is if a date moves into a certain season and either lowers or increases, but if that were to happen another date would have to move in the opposite direction. Apparently there has only been one major change and that was I believe the weekday v weekend rates at OKW a while ago, but again the overall total points for the resort stayed the same.

as claire l said, points for DVC stays will most likely be the same 30 years from now. if it costs 8 pts a night for a studio, that can only go up if something else comes down (assuming we're not talking about easter or another moving holiday which will change the cost of a given set of days each year.) given that DVC has a 15 year history in estimating demand with only one slight change in the point schedule at OKW, the first DVC resort, it's reasonable to expect the point charts to be pretty stable.

OTOH, point costs for trading out to other hotels, whether for the grand floridian in wdw or a nice location in london, or cruises and so forth WILL generally increase each year. so if you're not planning to use the points at DVC resorts, there is more of a risk of inflation over time limiting what you can do...

As noted the answer is generally no for the DVC resorts but yes for trading out to other places. For DVC resorts, if they raise points at one time of year they must lower them at some other time to keep total points for the year the same. OKW has had the only point shift and that was many years ago. BoardWalk had a point change shortly after it opened in 1996 but that was done by redoing all the offering documents before sales really got going. Initially, it had one point level (which is now the "preferred" level). Apparently because of complaints about the room views, it created lower point "standard" view for about 20% of the resort. It did so by simply lowering the total number of points it would sell.

About 7 to 8 years ago, DVC floated the idea that it was considering lowering weekend points and raising weekday but it was dropped.
