Points at 2 resorts- How confusing can it really get?

Just wanted to see what some of the worst case scenarios as far as juggling points at 2 resorts are. I'm playing around with what I could do with some add-on points and seem to run into things like having 4 extra points in one year that can't be banked, etc.....

Can points from 2 resorts be combined for a night? Say those extra 4 points at VWL and 18 at BWV? How does that all work?

Just trying to really know what I'm getting into before going ahead with an add on!

Yes they can. We have points from VWL, BWV, and VB. We juggle and combine all the time.

Okay, so when you combine and juggle all those points are you limited to the 7 month window? I'm guessing that with the DVC resorts this is so, but then you could still reserve other WDW resorts at 11 months. (recognizing the limitations of that whole situation as well, being that its a trade out..) Am I correct?

Yes you are correct. Home resort has no bearing when not using a DVC resort.
When using a DVC resort, if you combine points, you'd have to wait for the 7 month window. Or else make a ressie for part of the stay at the home resort at 11 months, and finish it with the points from the other resort at 7 months.
I have points at all 5 DVC resorts. But, for the most part, I use all points at their home resort to take advantage of the 11 month window at all resorts.

We own points at OKW and BWV. Very easy to keep track of the points. It's nice to own at multiple sites to take advantage of the 11 month booking window.
