Points after split stay was modified

I booked a split stay (3 separate reservations) using banked, current and a few borrowed points.

I just modified one of the reservations. In order to do that without losing a room for one night I had to book a room using borrowed points. I then removed one night off of one of the reservations. Those points from the one night cancellation seem to now be 2020 points that I banked into 2021. There are still changes that I want to make so I will probably wind up using these points. But if the room type I want does not become available I could potentially lose these points.

I tried calling MS but got “the call cannot go through” message. If I eventually get through will they be willing to put these in either this year’s or next year’s allotment since my total vacation did use up 21 and some of 22?
If MS were reachable, I would have called to make the change to ensure points were placed in current use year or next year. But with the long hold times I just did it myself.

I modified by taking a night off of a reservation. But before I did that I booked one night using borrowed points. I didn't want to take a night off before securing the available room.

I am okay leaving it for now as I hope to change another night if a 2 BR becomes available. I can call after that if points are screwed up. I don't want to be left with 2020 points after booking 8 nights in 2021 just because MS is unreachable. I usually call so they can cancel and then book, but that is not possible with the way MS is so difficult to reach.

Have you tried modifying any of your reservations to see if it will take up the banked points and free up current points? Is this a home resort reservation?

No. I have not tried that. I might be able to for my first two nights.....modify the reservation to the same thing. Ex - I have a 2BR at AK - modify it, but keep 2 BR at kidani?

No - it is not a home resort reservation.

Yeah keep everything the same and just go through the process. It should pull all borrowed and banked points before taking current points. I just did this with my reservation at VGF since my newly acquired BLT contract had some banked points.

So - I have 40 banked points and no current 2021 pts.

The reservation that I am "modifying" is 105 pts. It says:
Expiring at the end of the 2021 Use Year: 48
Available to Borrow from 2022 Use Year: 23

I see a long call to MS in my future.

Did you try modifying the reservation to the end? The last page before you complete the reservation may show the points not being pulled banked, borrowed, and current but once you complete it, the points are pulled correctly. That last part always freaks me out but it has always worked out the right way for me.

I thought this was the last page and it would confirm if I went any further. . Maybe not. I will look again.

So I just took a deep breath, crossed my fingers and took it all the way to the end and rebooked. I still have 40 2021 points but they are now bankable. Thank you!

Welcome! I always take a deep breath at that page too when doing something with banked points lol.

I saw your post from the credit card thread and figured I’ll come see if I could offer any useful advice!

Glad you figured it all out. The system will take banked and borrowed points before current UY but if you drop a night from a trip that had used all banked points, it will free those up.

You then have to modify other trips That had current points to swap them around. As you found out, for some strange reason, the message right before confirming doesn’t always give accurate info for banked points so you have to finish it up.

There is a points summary page there...before you go back to the dashboard...that will show exactly what did happen.. I always screenshot that so I Rememver where the banked points are.

I just had to do this last night as we made some changes to trips.

Thanks. I will have to start doing that. My kidani nights are likely the only ones I can play around with if I have to do this again. My other nights are at resorts with very limited availability. So now I need to figure out what points I just used for this modification.
