Currently have 200 points at SSR with a December UY. Looking to purchase another contract at different DVC resort. Wondering if it makes sense to align the UY of the new contract with the UY of the existing contract for purposes of remembering deadlines, or if it would make more sense to try and align the 11 and 7 month booking windows? We tend to travel in the late fall and spring. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks!

We purchased an October UY for that reason. Like to travel in the fall, but see us traveling over Christmas break and Spring Break as the kids get older. We can bank until May 31, so it works well for us.:goodvibes

If ever you will want to combine the points to reserve a stay at 7 months or less, it is easier to do it if the points have the same UY. We own at 6 resorts and all have the same UY.

Some people have different UY's and are OK, others are not. I like having just the one major contract.

With two UY's, you will have two different membership #'s, and thus, really, two different memberships.

In order to combine the points at 7 months from each contract for a single night, you have to complete a transfer. When contracts have the same UY (titled the same way as well), they fall under one membership. In those cases, at 7 months, all your points function as one.

However, if you are looking to get this contract to use for those fall vacations (which fall outside the banking window with a Dec UY), then be sure you look for one with enough points to do what you want.

We owned two UY's for a short time and I realized that I could not book our entire 6 night summer trip at 11 months without borrowing, which I did not want to do. My 2nd contract was only 50 points--not quite enough for two nights yet my other one was for 130, not enough for 5.

We sold and ended up re-buying the points and now all 180 are one UY.

Good luck!

travel in the late fall with a dec UY is not ideal - you would need to bank your pts by july 31 or they are "stuck" in that UY and will expire at the end of november...which might become an issue if you should need to cancel your fall trip. if the extra planning is not a big issue, it might be nice to have a different UY to use for fall trips...but if you never have to cancel, it will never be an issue.

the 11 month booking window is a factor based on what home resort contract you are using - so to align the 11 month window, i assume you mean buying more SSR pts? buying a small contract and banking and borrowing the pts from that small contract to get the 11 month window at another resort is a good idea but does take more planning - it is nice to guarantee the 11 month window at a smaller resort for those pts, though.
