Point transfer question

I think I had read somewhere that you can only transfer points into or out of your account, in one direction, each use year. So, if I have points transferred into one contract, can I transfer points OUT of a different one if I did an add-on? Or, regardless of how many contracts I have, can I only do it in one direction a year? I am trying to figure this out b/c it comes into play about where I add on.

I asked this question in May and was told by member services that transfers are by membership number. Our original contract is OKW and we added on thru Disney at BCV. Since both contracts are under the same membership number, I was told they count as one for transfers. I could NOT transfer out of OKW and into BCV in the same use year.

If you were to buy a resale contract, it is my understanding that you would have a different membership number. That contract would be treated separately and would not be connected to your original contract for transferring purposes.

This was my experience, but I also realize that Member Services doesn't always give the same answers to questions.

Thanks everyone, that is what I kind of remembered too, and I do plan to buy through Disney this time for ease as opposed to resale.

You get a new membership number only if you buy a different use year. I have several resales with two different resorts but they all have the same use year so they are under the same memember/contract number. I have a small contract with a different UY so a new member number for that contract.

It is DVC's goal to link the contracts if you buy resale and it's the same use year. They sometimes don't know and they won't go back and "fix" it later if they fail to do so. Also, the registration has to be identical for them to be linked just like it has to be identical to purchase an add on (less than 150 pts) from DVC directly.
