Point Reyes or Somewhere Else?

Hi! We're planning a trip to the San Francisco area at the beginning of August. We'll be spending a couple of days in San Francisco, taking a day trip to Muir Woods, and spending a couple of days with family in Pleasanton. We'll then have one more day in the Bay Area before coming home. We'll be starting in Pleasanton and ending our day at a hotel near SFO. We were thinking of driving to Point Reyes National Seashore, but that seems like a very long drive. It's also really hard to tell what will be open - the park website lists a ton of closures. Is it worth the drive? Or would we be better off someplace else for the day? Would love to be outside...and my daughter would love to go to a beach. (we know we won't be able to swim but putting her feet in the Pacific is high on her list of things to do!) Any ideas? THANKS!!

Point Reyes is really cool and impossible to believe it is so close to SF. Go out and come back through the redwoods. DO NOT continue on and follow the loop through Stinson Beach and come back that way if you are at all prone to motion sickness! It is really twisty-turny and takes much longer than you would think. If you just want to go to the beach, I'd suggest Ocean Beach or Pacifica instead - much easier to get to. If you are up for an adventure, Cronkite Beach in Marin is really cool too.
