Hey everyone. We have rented DVC pts. before and saved $$. I am looking at the option again, but I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what points are going for lately. We rented several years ago, and I don't want to overpay.

Also, I can't remember, if you rent pts. for DVC, and you use Magical Express?? We really don't want to have to rent a car.

Thanks!

I would check out the DVC section of the board to get an idea as to what people are renting their points for. Of course the ultimate cost will depend on when you are going as different seasons have different point values.

When we rented out our points years ago the person was able to utilize ME.

you can get ME and the dining plan through DVC even when renting points.

As for price per point, you are going to have to see what is available. I'd say $10 per point is the going rate but due to the changes that have been made on the rent/trade board, I'm not sure that is the rate anymore.

Go to DVCbyrequest dot com and get on their email list. They will send you notices of "sales". I have seen points as low as $5. But generally they are $13. I love using this service!

The going rate is $10-$13 per point. You can occasionally see a lower price, but that is only if the member is going to "lose" their points. That is pretty rare for any substantial amount of points. Also, if you have your heart set on a particular resort, you should start looking about a year before since owners at that resort can book at 11 months.

Yes, you can use ME, and you can purchase DDP. For DDP, you would now have to pay the owner in advance because they will be charged by DVC when they add it to the reservation.

LOSE, not LOOSE.

This grammatical correction brought to you by 'Dwarves Mining Company'.

What a creative and thoughtful way of responding!

As an English major, it kills me to see posts full of spelling and grammatical errors. (The teacher in me can't even stand text abbreviations.) But I've always been afraid to go around correcting the mistakes for fear that they'd be taken as mean, personal attacks. "Watch out, folks - the wicked Grammar Queen is here. She'll turn you into a toad if you spell something wrong!" :wizard:

It's not you, people - it's me.

$10-13 is the going rate unless the points are distressed (they are "use or lose" points [which happens when they are banked] or it is getting close to their expiration date [which is 30-60 days (reservations can only be booked within 30-60 days of that date)]).

There are a few third party brokers (those are the $12-13 per point) but they hold 1/2 the money and don't release it to the owner of the DVC until the first day of your reservation.

You can get dining plan (but this has to be paid in advance and they do a 3-way call with DVC to get your credit card number to put the cost on). You can do Magical Express too. So, if you decide to do the dining plan, you should probably wait until the last 30 days, if possible, before your vacation starts.

dvr-rental ???? anyone use this site before? Im about to book with them but I wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with them before?

I guess they are persona non grata on the disboards. All I see is ********'s.

David's Vacation Club Rentals sponsors the forum. You might want to check them out for a comparison. I often get emails from them with last minute points. The most recent one was for $6/pt for SSR, minimum of 60 pts. Get on their email list to be notified when they have cheap points to rent.

Someone on another board had common errors (like 'lose' and 'loose') as part of their sig. I'll admit I'm not always grammatically correct, and have been known to mistype or flat out misspell (are those supposed to be hyphenated? :rotfl:) words. This one just kind of got to me.
