Point reallocation when booking 2nd reservation and cancelling 1st reservation

Just curious about point reallocation when you have a reservation booked as a back up, but then find something else you want so you book that new reservation (so now you have two reservations booked at the same time, assuming you have enough points). Lets say that first reservation was made using banked points that you have to use and your new reservation is made using points from the current use year that you don't have to use. After you cancel your first reservation is it possible to apply those banked points to the new reservation you want to keep? Thanks, Greg

I have always had good CMs who at least look to see if reallocation can be done. It depends if the reservation you are keeping is opened to new booking, and the points you are trying to put into that reservation have no home resort conflict.

If you made an 11 month reservation with home resort and before 7 months you try to bring in non resort points, that can't be done. If it is within 7 month period and the villa would still be available to others for new, they can change. That is my understanding.

I just had a CM switch some points when I cancelled a reservation within 7 month time period. He offered to do it. That gave me 54 points I could have banked, instead, I used them.

To further add:

If you have used your 11 month booking advantage then a reallocation can only be done if those points which are to be used instead are from the same resort. Ie. You use 100(2018 UY) BLT points to book 3-8 july 2018. Then for whatever reason you cancel a booking ie in 2017 so now you have 100 BLT(2017 UY) points which you can bank. Those points from 2017 after banking can be used towards the july 2018 reservation.

Thanks for the information on this. So lets say I book an AKL standard view studio for two weeks for October 2018 right at my 11 month window. Lets say I use 176 points that I banked to 2018 (176 points were from 2017 with an April use year) to make this booking. At the 7 month window I log on and by some miracle there is a 1 week lake view studio at BLT available. I book this right away using my 2018, non banked, points (from my only contract at AKL). Now, I really want to use up my banked points so I call member services and ask them to cancel one of my weeks from AKL on my original reservation and I ask them to use those points to go towards my new BLT reservation. So now at the end I have two one week reservations, one for AKL, and one for BLT, and I have used all my banked points. Is this possible? Thanks again, Greg

Yes. I see no reason why MS wouldn't reallocate the points for you based on this example. (Your second reservation was made at the 7 month window).

To avoid any confusion -- it appears that you both are discussing the situation in which a user would have multiple home resorts (e.g., VGF and SSR). OP just has one home resort, so these comments don't seem relevant for his situation.

@Greg36 is merely asking if the points that were banked can be reallocated to the 2nd reservation. To answer that question -- yes, but you'll have to call MS to get a CM to do it. As @CarolMN said, there should be no reason why MS wouldn't reallocate for you. I've done it several times before. It's no big deal.

If the old reservation could have been booked using the points in question at the time it was originally booked and you're at least 31 days out, you should be fine. But you have to make sure you don't borrow points in the process as they won't later return them to the next UY. There are often ways around this even if the original reservation were booked in the home resort window but it gets more technical and convoluted.
