Point Reallocation Question

I should know the answer to this, but I don't.

Let's say I have a reservation that is less than 30 days out that holds some 75 expiring points and 25 non-expiring points. Then let's say I have a reservation that is outside of the holding period that is 100 expiring points. If I were to change that second reservation so that it is 75 points can I reallocate by modifying w/o changing anything on the first reservation to swap the expiring and non-expiring points or will the points that come out go into holding?

Modifying a trip within 30 days will result anything that is out back in your account as holding points.

If points are expiring - holding account beats expiration - so a swap still could be beneficial

I can’t advise on your exact situation, but I was recently told by member services that they cannot switch “better” (bankable) points for worse unbankable points unless those “worse” points are currently free— that is, they won’t swap points on active reservations…

Thanks all. That's what I figured so I won't mess with it. Trip 2 is still 50ish days away so if we were to change it and free up some points we could swap points and then they'd become holding and I could apply it to Trip 2 online, but don't think it is worth the risk.

As kes601 said, he's have to free up points before trying to swap them out.
