Point re-allocation

I was under the understanding after my CC tour last year that the points per night could not change. I’ve been reading up on this board, and I see people referencing point re-allocation. So Disney can change how many points a night requires? Is it that for the whole year they cannot increase the total points required? Meaning if they increased points to stay for some nights, the points would have to decrease for other nightmares? TIA!

DVC can change the points needed per night by increasing them for one season and reducing them for another. They can even create different booking categories with changes in points charts like they recently did at SSR. Or they can create more seasons, like they did for 2021. It’s debatable as to whether they can make changes across villa types like they tried to do with the 2020 points charts (i.e. increase studios while decreasing 2BR rates).

I know this was most likely autocorrect, but most people have ‘nightmares’ that the point requirements for their preferred season/villa will increase, rather than decrease.

my understanding is that each resort was allocated a finite number of points per year. They can assign them in any way - but the total cannot increase. So if they increase the point per night for a studio at a time of year, they have to decrease somewhere else. But they can change point per room type, time of year, etc... as long as they do not exceed the total for the resort.

The total number of points for a resort are allowed to differ with a few % each year. However the total number of points are calculated using a so-called base year.

dVc are allowed to reallocate the points across seasons for studios and other size rooms as long as any increase in a studio is followed by a decrease in a studio. Same goes for 1br and 2br.
