I'm planning on booking a trip with my points for September. (September use year) I still have 33 points for September 2016 (and will have more once i cancel 2 nights for February) that I will bank. If i make the reservation before I bank the points, will it use my September 2017 points or will it use my banked points first (once they are banked) and then my September 2017 points?

Hopefully that makes sense lol

Also, how are the crowds in mid/late September?

Mid to late Sept.
Is busier than it use to be due to the extended dates for EPCOT F&W and the earlier start of MK MNSSHP.

If you book before you bank the points, they will be taken out of 2017 UY. If after you bank the 2016 UY points and then want to reallocate them two things are possible:
1. If there is another room like the current one you have booked, then they MS can book that room with the banked points, cancel the reservation with the 2017 UY points and leave the reservation number the same.
2. If there is NOT another room like the current one you have booked, then MS would have to cancel the current reservation and rebook using the banked points. The possible problem with this is that someone else could jump in there between the cancelation and rebook and take your room or the wait list could scoop up some or all of those days.

The above is not correct if the points are all for the same resort. If you book now a Sep trip at home resort before banking the points, they will use only the Sep 2017 points for the trip. If later you bank the points and they are for the same home resort, MS will allow you to replace 2017 points in the reservation with the banked 2016 points even if all rooms are otherwise filled for the period when you call to make the change. What you will not be able to do is make the change online but instead must call MS to do it. The two rules for a change stated above apply only when you attempt to replace home resort points in a 11 month reservation with points from another resort at 7 months out.

We're planning on staying at our home resort, so this will work for us! thank you! :)

Historically that's been the case but we should realize it's not by rule and it might not be this way consistently.

I actually had a CM do me one even better. I got a second resale contract with an Apr UY (original contract was Dec UY) for the same resort. I have a reservation Feb 2017 that used my december points from 2015 (banked), 2016 points and some borrowed 2017 points.

I called to reallocate my April 2016 for the december 2016 points used, and the CM actually "unborrowed" my 2017 points. Didn't think that was even possible. Certainly wasn't about to argue with her. She had to get her supervisor to help, but they did it.

Didn't know they could return borrowed points to the original UY. Is this something they allow for reallocations?

Normally no. They have done it for people when they bought new contracts direct. It's much rarer for a resale purchase like this.

IMO, mustinjourney received some serious pixie dust. :) No one should count on anything similar happening for a resale, especially if a Supervisor got involved. Things like these are usually "favors" reserved for a direct purchase.

yeah -- I was completely shocked. So much so that I didn't even question the person b/c I didn't want to give them the chance to reconsider. All I cared about while I was talking to her was to confirm that all the points were there and where they should be.

I guess she felt bad that she initially screwed up in telling me that the allocation was impossible to do and her supervisor must have felt bad for me. I was on the line for 50 minutes in total (including an 8 minute initial wait period). Worked out well for me, so I'm not complaining.

I thought it was actually impossible for them to do it...but I guess the system gives them some flexibility.

In my case, I was just trying to make sure my April points were used before the Dec points. I was perfectly fine with using the borrowed points, since the plan was to just bank the 2016 points into 2017. But now I don't have to bank anything, so I have a lot more flexibility. I was definitely shocked she offered it without even my asking about it. Strangely, when she did it, she acted like that was the only way it should be done. I would have at least expected her to tell me she was throwing me a bone and that this was a one time kind of thing.

It never has been impossible - just improbable. But they have done it for direct purchases for awhile. Another incentive to buy from them, not a resale.
