Point question....

I currently have a 1BR unit booked for Memorial Day week when my MIL was planning on joining us, but it appears that she will not be joining us after all. I purchased one time use points (OTUP) and borrowed a couple of points to complete this reservation. If she is not coming I will probably be downgrading to a studio, and staying for a longer duration, but this will not use as many points as the 1BR.

So, onto the question...If I change my reservation, will MS use the points in this order: OTUP, borrowed points, current year points? If so I could bank unused points left over into next year, but i'm concerned that the OTUP may be used last. Anyone have an answer to this? TIA!

They should use OTUP and borrowed first but I am not sure which order it would be between those two. Note when you call to make the change, you should just make sure you ask that the OTUP's and borrowed go first to assure no mistakes are made. You can bank any current points left over if you are not past your eighth month banking window when you make the change. Of course, the above is of little use unless you are actually able to find a studio you want that you can reserve since it will depend on what is available when you call.

They should. I have had similar situations, though it never involved one time use points. When and if you call to change the reservation, make sure you tell them exactly how you want the points to be used.

They should use the One-Time-Use and Borrowed Points first. It's always a good idea to let them know the reservation uses those points if they don't mention it.

Thanks for the info, I should know today if I need to make the change or not. If I find out I'm going to call tomorrow to make the change.

So as it turns out I will be swapping to a studio. I'm going to call tomorrow morning to make the change, and we're going to go with AKV, savannah view. Any recommendation of Jambo vs Kidani? Or room requests we should make? We have 2 girls ages 3 & 1 at time of travel.

There is only a 1 sq foot difference in size between Savanna View Studios in Jambo House and Kidani Village. I prefer the bathroom setup in Jambo House which has the sink area and tub/toilet area separate. In Kidani Village, the sink and tub are together with a separate toilet area and if someone is taking a shower, no one can use the toilet or sink.

The big differences come down the the building and amenities. Jambo House has a larger and more impressive lobby. The lobby at Kidani Village is smaller and more intimate.

For dining, Kidani Village does not have quick service. That is only available in Jambo House with the Mara. At Kidani Village there is Sanaa which is table service and open for lunch and dinner.

How much more convenient is parking at Kidani vs Jambo?

My usual rule: if getting studio or GV go with Jambo, if 1 or 2BR Kidani. The studios at each are about the same size and Jambo has the better bathroom arrangement. Jambo's advantages include having the three restaurants including a quick service, the larger pool, the bigger lobby, and larger store. Kidani's advantages include a pool with a longer slide and an elaborate kids water play area, one of the best table service restaurants on site (but no breakfast), a Community Hall, and ideal parking. You park under the building at Kidani and with elevators along the wings you can park fairly close to your room regardless of where it is. At Jambo there is a large lot across the road from the the front of building and depending on where you can find a spot you may have a rather long walk.

I agree 100% with this.

I like the feel of Jambo better particularly if you are in a studio. The public areas are nicer I think and the quick service food is very handy.

Jambo, you park in the big lot outside the Lodge. Kidani, you park under the building. There are multiple elevators up from the underbuilding parking.

For these reasons I chose Kidani even though we are staying in a studio. With our two young girls, and since we are planning two non park days I like the idea of the kids water play area and the community hall. I know we could just walk over, but we will be doing our grocery shopping off site and will probably not be using most of the other Jambo house benefits. I don't really plan on getting counter service food at the hotel, probably sandwiches in the room instead, but I would like to try Sanaa this trip.
