I'm curious as to what the point increase has been for the cruises.
I'm looking to cruise in 2006 and I'm just wondering how much the points are gonna jump up!
For 2003 a 4 night cruise catergory 9 regular seaon was 124 for an adult.
For 2004 it is 128.

Does any have the old points for a f night cruise catergory 9 regualr season for an adult for any prevoius years? I'm really curious to see how it has risen so I kinda know what to expect.

I think we will be paying for 2 adults on points and the kids on cash.

Thansk for any info!

2002 it was 101, 124, 136 or 150 depending on season.

In 2001 a Cat 9 4 day was 86, 105 or 120 depending on season. It was also kids rate through age 17 at 32-57 points and adults for 3/4 for 38-63 points.

For 2000 it was 85, 96 or 108 for the first two.

In 1999 it was 103, 112 & 127 but that was thse same price for cat 8 OR 9.

If I understand correctly, a point increase in one area will lead to a point decrease in another. Is that correct or are the cruises not considered part of the DVC resort system?

The cruises are not part of the DVC resort system. They can go up as much as they want, anywhere they want.

It's not correct. The "increase in one leads to a decrease in another" applies only to the DVC resorts. The non-DVC options are not included. Point requirements for those can (and have) increased.

Me thinks the cruise line is asking too many points for their cruises or DVC does not know how to negotiate with the rest of disney

OR

Our points are worth less to Disney since they have to discount room only rates fairly regular basis lately

thanks

Actually all of the above. DVC values our points at about $5 pp. IMO the exchange rates are criminal for DC, CC and DCL. But unless DVC is willing to play hard ball, this will not change. What I mean is that they need to be willing to walk away from having an option available unless they get an appropriate value. This means putting the needs of the members above those of WDW itself, something I've never seen the DVC BOD be willing to do. The other disadvantage is that DVC is actually negotiating a cash price then trying to raise the cash by renting out the rooms. I aslo assume they are paying a commission to CRO to do this.

Since each WDW resort is technically a separate entity, they could tell PO that if they didn't give them a better price, they'd offer only CBR or CS and so on down the line. My guess is they'd have to prove it a year making exchange options slim for a year or two and after that you'd have about 30-50 % of the options available but the rate would be at least 30-50% better than it is now.

Thanks Dean, you always have an interesting insight into the economics of our DVC holdings

cheers
