Point charts are up

All of the 2002 charts seem to be available, plus the 2003 charts for DVC resorts. There does not seem to be any change in DVC resort point charts.

For the DC, the seasons have changed quite a bit and many of the point costs have increased. Some have decreased for some dates and there are now options to select different views as well as concierge rooms.

Lots of options now, but it will remain a decision for each DVC member as to the value of using points in this fashion.

Doc,

Were you able to read the DVC points for BWV , OKW and WLV? They show up on my screen with an error and then are all black so you can't read them.

DVC resorts are the same, as one would expect(with usual date changes for Easter time and Thanksgiving). The DC for WDW resorts goes to a system that follows the Disney in general seasons and not DVC seasons. From what I can tell you have increases, many significant, for a lot of times of year and some decreases because of the switch in method of designating seasons (in other words the intent was obviously to increase across the board and some decreases show up by accident of switch in method of designating seasons). With the Concierge Collection (numerous resorts and hotels throughout the nation), it appears a lot of the resorts went up 10% or more. Don't want to spread gloom but I defy anyone to put a good gloss on the changes in DC and Concierge and be believed; sure you can now get concierge with DC but a Grand Villa is cheaper than the points for it; also they divide between standard and better views now and in past on run-of-the-house method you could very often get better than the standard view but now you are going to pay much higher for that better view.

Thanks Drusba for validating some of our concerns. As many will discover, they have totally changed the seasons for DC. While they have adjusted down some of the higher point requirements, they have significantly raised the lower seasons. Seasons are now: Value: 1/1-2/13, 7/4-10/2, 11/3-12/19
Regular: 4/21-7/3, 10/3-11/2
Peak: 2/14- 4/20
Holiday: 12/20- 12/31

Grand Floridian:
2001: run of house: 26-54/night weekday 45-102/night weekend
2002: Standard : 35-52/night weekday 63-94/night weekend

Polynesian:
2001: run of house: 22-48/weekday 40-92/weekend night
2002: Standard: 31-48/weekday 56-86/weekend night

Yacht and Beach Club:
2001: run of house: 22-48/weekday 40-92/weekend night
2002: standard: 30-46/weekday 54-83/weekend night

Other resorts have modest increases low season and decent decreases high season. Good news is Easter is peak and not holiday season and Thanksgiving is value season, so points are lower for standard rooms.
This is a very simplified analysis. I guess the bottom line is you will pay more in low season, less in high season, and a lot more for preferred view or Concierge.

This forum is the place to be if you want gloom....

I wouldn't call it doom and gloom but I would call it a wake up to reality. The good news is that the exchange programs still exist. More good news is that you can now be assured of room type and have the option to book Concierge. The bad news is that the cost, which was prohibitive before, is now bordering on ridiculous. As I said, if this is the one time adjustment and will remain fairly constant for another 10 years or so, I can deal with it. Otherwise, this is a program that is fairly useless.

A reminder that this may be the last year for Y&B. Usually when a DVC resort opens, we can no longer exchange into that resort hotel (BWI, WL). However, a DVC room is usually much better than the resort itself. :)

I say this very respectfully, this is not about doom and gloom. It's about change. There is good change and there is bad change. And I think we find it entertaining and informative to discuss all the good and bad. Discussing disappointment is as valid as discussing our joy :D . Why is this perceived as negative? I get more out of an honest discussion than a sugar coated one.

The following decreased at the GF

Weekends only March 24- April 6 (4 days)
Garden view only April 21-30 (10 days)
Garden view only June 11-July 3 (23 days)
July 4-August 15 (43 days)
November 27-29 (3 days)
Garden view weekends only Dec. 24-31 (2 days)

Breakout of decreases
46 days decrease
4 days weekends only
33 days garden view only
2 days garden view weekends

Since last year we usually got lagoon view, in 2002 we will have 50 days with a decrease of 5% and 315 days with an
increase of between 6%-104% with the majority in the higher percentage ranges. Even the garden view rooms will have increases of 2%-70% over last year's points.

Let's look at December prior to Holiday season. In 2001, it would take 30 points weekdays and 53 points F-Sa. In 2002, it's 41 points S-Th and 74 points F-Sa (35 and 63 for garden view). It may not hold true for 2002, but this year it is possible to book a room at the GF for $199. We are paying a very high premium to use points.

Just looked at Y&B. Pretty much the same story. The dates around Easter and Thanksgiving and for a bit in the summer go down slightly (due to the switch from DVC to Resort seasons). Overall, there are substantial increases in the number of points required to stay at Y&B. The increases for a lagoon view range from 1%-108% with the majority in the 30-50% range and for standard view an increase in the 1%-84% range, with most in a 20-30% increase.
