point/cash split

We are planning a trip in October. For the first night it was supposed to be just my partner and I but we now have my sister and brother in law arriving that same night. We have a studio reserved the first night and a 2BR for the remaining 7 nights. I called MS and they will not allow me to apply the 22 points used for the studio towards a 2BR upgrade for that first night. I was hoping to pay the cash difference between the studio and 2BR. Has anyone had any experience getting around this, would a call directly to SSR help? I hate to pay the 590 rack rate for a 2BR.

It sounds as though there is no availabilty for a points reservation in a 2BR for that first night- otherwise there would be no problem cancelling the studio and using those points (and a few more) to add a night in a 2BR. There is no way to use both points and cash for one night however- a single night must either be reserved using ALL points or ALL cash. If there is no availability using points, your only option would be the cash reservation - and it could be linked to your later reservation.

The problem is that I have used all 2006 and 2007 points for the trip. All I have to play with are those 22 points.

I checked online and through our passholder discounts we can get a good rate for a savannah room at AKL. I am thinking that we may put the family up at SSR and stay at AKL. That could be fun just not as convient.

You can't use both cash AND points to pay for a single night. Either one or the other.
