Hi,

I just booked the Port Orleans French Quarter for Feb 18, 2006 for seven nights for myself and my two daughters, ages 8 and 9.

I'm a single mom and was just wondering what the nightlife is, if any, in this resort or in the Riverside resort. Also, how does one get from the FQ to the Riverside aside from walking?

I'm so excited! Two years ago we did Disney for a few days and then went on the Disney Wonder. I loved the cruise so much that I booked another one but on a different line and never again!!! When we got home we all agreed that the magic had been missing so next year it's back to the Mouse's house!

Thanks for any tips or suggestions in advance. Basically I"m looking to see if they have any entertainment or even if a single parent has gone before suggestions on what to do.

There is a boat between the resorts aside from walking. Also I do believe that the busses start at POFQ and then go to pick up people at POR. Check with the driver before getting on and if they do go to POR before heading to their final destination, then hop on and get off at the South Depot (closest to the main bldg w/food court, restaurant, store and lounge). In the lounge there is the most wonderful piano man, Bob Jackson, tons of fun for the whole family. Also as far as nightlife, there is the boat to DTD where there is plenty of night life. I don't know much about POFQ because we have stayed at POR and only traveled one day to POFQ to see Minnie and go for swim (it was Easter Sunday that's why Minnie was there, not a daily thing).

My husband and I are looking at booking POFQ for January 2006.

If you don't mind my asking, did you get any kind of special rate or the rack rate?

I've been told that "special" rates for 2006 won't be available until sometime this summer and so far I've only been quoted rack rates or higher.

POFQ is our FAVORITE resort. You guys will LOVE it. The poster a little above is right..the buses 1st stop is POFQ (the resort is so small it only has 1 bus stop) then it heads over to the 2-3 stops at POR (I can't remember exactly how many) or until we fill the bus. It's VERY nice to be able to load an empty bus first!!!

Also..the boats traveling to POR and DTD from POFQ is very relaxing and great fun. We had a driver last year that sang the entire way..it was great. DTD is FULL of night life. Lots of clubs and even street entertainers.

You will have a great time!!! POFQ is the best.

I got the normal rate for the February time, which is the one lower than Christmas I think. I believe it was $166/night. I only booked it now to make sure I have the room. I"m hoping that I'll be able to use a AAA rate when they come out. I"m still undecided about that though since I guess you can't get the meal plan using the AAA rate. I have to do research but I have a long time so I'll figure it all out eventually.

As for night life, Bob Jackson does a piano show at PO-Riverside on certain nights. Check out his web site at www.yehaabob.com for his schedule. It is a blast. We are staying at PO-FQ this May. It is a wonderful resort.

We'll definitely have to check him out! I know that most people think that POR is the way to go with older kids but I think mine are just at the cusp, being 8 and 9. Plus I just love the decor and have always wanted to go to the real French Quarter so I figure this is my way of getting the best of both worlds since we can hop over to POR for their pools, entertainment and food anytime we want and then go back to our place.

So I get that the bus starts at POFQ and then goes to POR but how about coming back? One other reason I chose POFQ is that everything is close and since I have rheumatoid arthritis I figure I'll be doing enough walking at the parks so when I get to the resort I want to relax. I"m hoping we won't have to walk back from POR to POFQ (isn't it funny how we pick up the abbreviations so quickly!) at all.

Thanks so much. I love these boards. They helped me tremendously in 2004 when we went to disney and then the wonder. I'm trying not to get too excited since I have a looooong way to go and I don't want to wish our beautiful summertime away! I guess it must be because I just booked it that I'm so elated. :goodvibes

You can check and see what times the boats run between the resorts. I'm not sure of the hours. That may be an option for going back and forth. My kids were 5 and 9 the last time we went to Disney and this time they were 7 and 10 (dd7 had a bday a couple of weeks before this trip) and they ADORE POR. It's very comfortable and homey, and Tom Sawyer-ish. If you have arthritis though POFQ is a perfect choice for you because it's less walking than you might have at POR. I hope you have a wonderful magical time!
