POFQ vs rented points at BWV/AKV?

These are the options I’m considering for our next trip (summer 2020, probably August) and was hoping you guys could help me think of the pros and cons.

A Studio at BWV or AKV (not value) seems to be very close in price to POR/POFQ.

With DVC we get a “deluxe” resort but no housekeeping, and a pullout sofa for the 2nd bed. Also have to book 11 months out/not refundable. In the case of BWV, premium location on property.

With a moderate we get two actual queen beds and housekeeping but no kitchenette. Ability to modify/cancel reservation.

Am I missing anything? What would you choose in the $300/night range (or less)?

I have never stayed at a Moderate but have stayed at BWV the last 3-4 times we visited. I love BWV and the location can't be beat. The "no housekeeping' does not bother me. (They do refresh towels every 4 days). I like having the kitchenette. The last couple of times I was able to rent at the 7th month mark (as the guy I rent from owns at a different resort). But if you can book earlier- all the better.

We usually get Garden/Pool View Category and request overlooking the Village Green. Can also see the lake and the Boardwalk from this view. If you can get at the same price and the no housekeeping and bed situation is ok for you - then I would definitely book BWV.

The Boardwalk has the ability to walk into Epcot and...........

Ample Hills Ice Cream!

Boardwalk all the way!!!! :)

I would go with the BWV, you should probably consider trip insurance if the nonrefundable part is a concern. We were only 2 people though, who will be on the pull out?

It really depends on who will be on the pullout (I'd recommend it for kids more than adults) and what the likelihood is you will need to cancel. Is there anyone ill in the family? Could someone end up pregnant and unable to travel? Would your jobs end up requiring you to work on an important project? There are variables that could make a non refundable reservation more of a risk for some families than others. The kitchenette isn't a major addition IMO... You get some cabinets and some cups but there are refrigerators in the standard rooms. You can't really cook anything in a studio. I have rented points and I lived it. It's a great way to stay at a deluxe for a way cheaper rate than you'd get on a standard room. If you are pretty certain you won't need to cancel, go for it. My only hesitation would be if your party is more than 2 adults. In that case I think having real beds for everyone does make things more comfortable... But if you are willing to sacrifice comfort to get access to some of the deluxe resort amenities, it may be worth it.

Thanks everyone! I have two daughters who will be 12 and 9. Usually they can share a bed but sometimes my younger one gets too giggly and I have to separate her, which means I might end up on the pullout once or twice. Hmmm.

I don't foresee any need to cancel completely. The only logistical challenge I see is that I have to select the exact dates before I will know flight times and prices. I can obviously add a night elsewhere but then we have to move rooms which I don't love. Hmmm. But that Boardwalk location...

You need to price out a pool/garden view at boardwalk. If you are basing your comparison on getting a standard view studio, you maybe disappointed.

The BWV Studio has a 1 Single Pull Down Bed under the TV area where you 9 year old could sleep in addition to the Queen bed and Double-Size Sleeper Sofa.

You do get housekeeping just not every day unless you want to purchase it, see the various options below. How long would you be staying? You also can pay for housekeeping at DVC. Here are the housekeeping details for DVC.

IMO, and I know I’m one of the few, but I don’t think it’s worth the risk of losing your money if you have to cancel. To many things can happen 11 months out...

Plus your flight dates could be one of those more expensive days. We fly southwest and the prices vary tremendously. One day they can be $109 round trip and then a week late $300. Big difference in price.

Just things to think about. With all that said POFQ I hear great reviews about. We usually stay deluxe, but always with a great discount. We got AKL savanah view for this August at a large discount. Almost mod pricing.

Good luck in your decision!

We have rented points 3x and have bought cancel for any reason insurance every time for that just in case reason. We have never had to use the insurance, but love the security it provides. It is so nice to stay deluxe for a moderate price with renting points.

You could book the POFQ room then wait to see what airfare looks like and switch to BWV. Summer isn't peak DVC time; it's not necessary to book 11 months in advance, especially if you're looking at AKV Kidani (Jambo will likely not be available).

We’ve rented twice before and it is a great way to save money! When my boys were younger, they didn’t mind the pullout bed at all, but now that they are teenagers neither of them care for it; they both prefer a real bed to sleep in.

We are also planning a trip to Disney next summer, and we like to stay deluxe, but with the increase in room prices for next year, I’m thinking we are going to have to either stay moderate or rent DVC, but that puts my boys back on the pullout bed, which I know they don’t care for. I’m not sure what I’m going to do...

Summer isn’t a high-demand time for DVC. You probably wouldn’t need to book at 11 months to get a studio at either of those resorts in August. Booking at 7 months (or even less) is always possible if your dates are flexible and you’re not finicky about the view (no value view at AKV, no standard or boardwalk views at BWV).

The opportunity to stay at AKV at a "moderate" level price...……...you have to do that! AKV are amazing. We rented points for a savanna view...……..it was amazing!!! We rented a studio in Jambo House.416953

Thank you. I'm not picky about view at all, the only issue is that the "cheap" views go first so I may get stuck with an expensive view. The dates have some wiggle room but not too much with school heading back.

I do love AKV and have eaten there many times, but never stayed. I think I prefer it to BWV (I have stayed there) in every way except location, but that's a big exception.

So much to think about!

I'd like to know how you get such a great deal for a deluxe room?

I think you would almost have to do this if you’re renting points.

I don’t know, I looked at renting. For me, too risky. I’m sure it works out fine for most.

We've rented points and stayed at BWV several times. It's my FAVORITE. I'd do it any day over POFQ. We leave in a week we are trying out Coronado Springs and I am a little sad about it :( I wanted to do BWV again.
