I just saw an overview map of the WDW Resorts, and saw that the POFQ was on the far side of EPCOT.

I am taking my own car.

So, my question is, would it be better to drive to EPCOT, park, and take the Monorail, changing at TTC, to MK, or would be be better to just drive from POFQ to TTC?

You do have to go to the TTC to get to the MK, right?

TIA. . .:D

It is just as fast to get ot MK as to get to Epcot from POFQ. Definitely faster than parking at Epcot and taking the monorail.

Yes, you would go to the TTC to get to MK if driving.

Actually, we take the car everywhere EXCEPT MK. It is much faster with the bus.

I agree with "betterlate".

MK is the one place that taking the bus is a *major* improvement over driving oneself.

But if you *do* need to drive from POFQ to MK, make sure you *don't* take what looks like the direct route on Vista Blvd., going past Ft. Wilderness.

If you take that route, you have to drive past the TTC, past the Poly, all the way around the parking lot, almost out past the toll plaza, then catch a barely-marked, easy-to-miss u-turn to get back into the TTC parking lot. (Even though Vista Blvd. drops you right next to the toll plaza, you can't make a left turn for what looks like easy access to the lot - you have to take the long way around.)

You'd be much safer going down to Buena Vista Drive, past the Boardwalk, and then up on World Drive.

I'm not sure I understand why it's just as fast to get to MK as Epcot from POFQ, since POFQ is on the far side of Epcot.

I'm just afraid I'm gonna get down there and spend all my time driving around, lost! :earseek:

Although it seems that having a car can be an advantage. .I remember it taking 30 minutes by bus from Poly to DTD, and 40 minutes back!

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to print this out and keep it handy!

BTW, do you know how long it takes to get from POFQ to MK by bus? Sounds like it might be easier. . :D

The one drawback to the bus is that you almost always have to share a route with POR - so you have about 8-10 minutes to pass through the four stops at POR. From there, my memory is that it's another 10 minutes or so to MK.

Remember, the busses *don't* have to stop at the TTC, they go to just outside the MK entrance. That's the big advantage.

It sounds like you aren't an expert at getting around at WDW. That's perfectly OK - it's a big place and can be confusing. But you have plenty of experts here, who know all the details, all the backroads, all the stop signs, and where you can and can't turn. That's one reason I like hanging out on the transportation board - finding my way around WDW is something I'm pretty good at.

My advice for those learning their way around is to get one of those roadmaps of WDW and try to get a feel for where things are relative to other things. Don't try to memorize all the roads and all the turns - you'll just get confused.

There are really two main roads to learn - Buena Vista Drive and World Drive. If you learn where things are relative to those two roads, you've conquered most of what you need to know to find your way around.

Hope this is helpful. Keep asking questions!

Cigar95,

Thanks for the great post! You are correct, I'm not familiar with all the roads at WDW. The first two times I was there, ('72 and '74) we stayed at the Poly, and there was only the MK! Last time, we flew and took the WDW transportation.

Now that I'm driving my own car, I look forward to cruising around WDW at my own pace! I can plug a DVD in for the kids, and that beats riding with two cranky boys on a bus. LOL!

Thanks again, and I'll keep reading the board!

Do you have a road map of the WDW property? Here's a link to one to get you started:

http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/maps.html

(They won't delete the post for linking to another site, will they?)

This map is a couple years old - no Pop Century, no AK Lodge, but all the roads are still the same, as far as I know.

I'm sure there are sites that have the fully up-to-date versions of this map, I'm just not sure where they are.

Yes, I have found this site! As a matter of fact, I've been having all kinds of fun looking at the maps posted here. . .as if I don't have anything else to do! LMAO!

I think I'm gonna print these maps, laminate them, and keep them in a little notebook in my car! :teeth:

Actually it might be quicker if you turn left out of POFQ, then right at Community Drive (first light, now DVC Drive I believe), merge onto Epcot Center Drive to World Drive rather than going all the way down to Buena Vista to get to World Drive (lots of lights).

On my first trip to WDW with a rental car, I studied a map like the one linked to here. Once I got there it didn't take long to learn it. The main 4 roads form a square - World Drive, Vista Way, Bonnet Creek Parkway & Buena Vista.

That sounds like the thing to do.. .study the map a bit before getting there. This is my first trip alone with my boys, and I want it to be as easy as possible! Now, if I can just find a magic "no-fight" pill, I'll be set! ;)

Epcot Drive (freeway) cuts east-west through the middle of the aforementioned square (Vista along the north, Bonnet Creak, Buena Vista, World along the west). I'm not exactly sure which light you turn right at after coming south on Bonnet Creek from Port Orleans.

Returning from Magic Kingdom, to cut through the middle of that "square" you have to go through the Epcot toll plaza, miss the first left (a U-turn), go through a line of cones and take the next left.

I'll agree with DebbieB that taking Epcot Center Drive is quicker than my suggestion to take Buena Vista - not "maybe", but "definitely". I think the road signs may even say "Magic Kingdom this way" when you come to the entrance onto EC Drive.

Just be sure that you follow the signs closely, so you don't get routed into the Epcot parking lot by mistake.

Somehow, this is a road that I don't use very often at WDW. Maybe I just tend to forget it's there.

On the bus between POFQ....

How many stops will I have to sit through when traveling by bus from POFQ to MK?

Likewise, how many on the way back? Is it just the reverse or do they stop at POFQ first on the return trip?

Also, does everyone agree with the previous posters estimated time of 20 min for the bus ride from POFQ to MK which includes multiple stops at POR and then to MK?

Thanks!
