I am going to POFQ in May, and haven't been there in 3 years. Can anyone tell me what kind of renovations they did if any when they changed Dixie Landings into Port Orleans Riverside? I know POFQ was closed for a period.

Thanks for your help!

Hi! It was closed for a while b/c of lack of demand at the Disney resorts. I'm not sure what renovations were done to the rooms. I just came back from the POFQ in early December. Our room carpeting, linens seemed rather new. But, you could see nicks/wear on the furniture and the grout and tub in the bath showed wear and tear. So, maybe they just replaced linens/carpet?

It was a beautiful resort. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. :)

Wow- what great photos. I have to admit that the reports of wear & tear at POFQ have been nagging at me just a little since I switched from POR, but in your pix the room looked beautiful. And the Disney Wonder looks amazing - you had a great stateroom and what a veranda! We better start saving up for that trip! Thanks for sharing, Misti.:)

Stayed at POFQ in May. Renovations were done outside only. All buildings were painted and the grounds were maintained - the resort looked beautiful! Food court was redone. Game room was redone. Our room had not been redone and was not in the best of condition. Carpet was dirty, room was dirty, wall had huge scuff marks on it, furniture was nicked badly. I did communicate this to the POFQ management so hopefully the room we stayed in was fixed! I have to say that during our multiple (more than 6) stays at POR, we have never had a room in this condition. We have always been most pleased. I wanted to experience POFQ because when I find a resort I like, I tend to like to stay there a lot - LOL! However, when I compare the POFQ room to all of the other rooms where I've stayed, it was the worst of the lot. Given the choice, I would always stay at POR.

We were just at PO-FQ in October, and the entire food court has been redone. It is great, and very decorative. The food is very good, as well. The outside of the buildings have been repainted, and the grounds relandscaped. As for the individual rooms, they have not been refurbed... so things are a little worn, but nothing that would make us complain. I am sure once they complete refurbing Port Royale at CBR, Old Man Island at PO-R and Stormalong Bay at YC/BC, they will get to the rooms at PO-FQ... don't let the fact that they haven't been refurbed stop you from staying there though... they are lovely, and comfortable!

Maybe I should post a new thread polling people's experience w/ wear & tear at POFQ!

Nicks & maybe worn carpet I could probably live with - as long as it's clean ... but doesn't this start to detract from the *magic* a little? I also read somewhere on these boards (Misti maybe?) about mold in the grout! I don't think mold is very Disney -also, it's easily fixed by a squirt bottle w/ bleach . . . has anyone been moved to complain and gotten their room switched - or super-cleaned??

I know these are probably just first trip jitters.... and one or two (or more???) reports of shabbiness doesn't mean they're all that way. . . but moderate or not & good rate or not, it's too much money to spend with these descriptions of worn, nicked, etc. I switched from POR b/c we've got 2 dd's, 4 & 7, and the compactness and quaintness was appealing ... now I'm wondering again....:(

We just got back from POFQ Saturday and our room didn't show ANY wear and tear. Took lots of pictures and we were completely happy with it!!!

The most wear and tear we really saw were scuff marks on the walls due to suitcases rubbing against them over by the suitcase rack. We didn't notice any mold, although it is a natural thing in Florida... the bedspreads were nice, and the carpet may have been a bit old, but still servicable. Unfortunately, you cannot expect that everything will be "brand spanking new", because many people stay in these rooms day after day, and WDW or any other resort establishment cannot afford to refurb every resort every year! Please don't get your expectations so high that nothing will please you!

Received a mailing from Disney today saying that PO is going to be refurbishing Ol' Man Island pool and jacuzzi from Jan 6, 2003 to Feb 8, 2003.
