I was advised that this small resort would be a good place for my little ones - 3 y.o. & 7 months. We plan to go in Feb. 2005 - questions - are the renovations complete? (this was recently renovated, right?) and which building do you recommed (non-smoking)? thanks.

Look for the POFQ FAQ on this board. It will answer all of your questions that you have!!!

Jenny- do check out the POFQ faq thread- lots of good info! Yes, the renovations at POFQ are complete. POFQ was re-opened in May. The resort is very small compared to most of the others- making it great for children and tired legs! It is a short walk from any building to the bus stops, food court, pool, etc. Here is a great map from this site: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/portorleans.jpg
Most people prefer buildings 4, 3, or 5. Part of building 4 used to be smoking- before the rehab- not sure anymore.
Good luck! You will love POFQ- it's our favorite!!!princess:

we just took our 4 year old in may and he liked it alot

the pool is very child oriented with the dragon slide and the alligator characters all around it.

It is a very nice moderate and as you've read recently renovated. The only thing I would keep in mind with little ones is that all moderates have bus service only (except for a boat to Downtown Disney from POFQ & POR). If you prefer the convenience that the monorail brings (which is fabulous) go for a MK resort. Prices are much higher - if you are going early Feb you might be able snag a code.

One summer I stayed at CBR with 5 yr old twins and they loved being able to ride bikes (rented) around the resort on our no park days. Loved that there was a pool in every village and a small main pool. BUT if I had children that age now and wanted a moderate I would probably choose POFQ..as long as the masks will not scare them. Have you looked at photos of the resort?

The rooms are a tad dark, but I hear very nice since the renovations. Be sure to request a corner room, building 3 or 5 are both excellent, garden view and non-smoking.

Enjoy!

DD was an infant the last time we got to stay at this resort- but my nieces were there also. They were about 3 and 6 at the time- they loved the alligators around the resort!!! They thought they were cute and funny! They are not scary at all- very festive looking. The pool is perfect for smaller children- even though we've never used it b/c of the time of year we've taken our trips- my nieces thought it looked very 'cool'.
You can find lots of great pictures on deb's web page listed above. It has pictures of the rooms and outside. My guess is the rooms will be very nice since they were just rehabbed!
As far as the monorail goes as the above poster said, it would be nice. However, we got a great discount for AKL last year due to POFQ being closed (where we originally had reservations. For the money, I'd go with a moderate. Now, this is for my family. We do not spend much time in the resort- basically just to sleep. We are in the parks from morning till night. And we've taken children ages 6 months to 8. But, if you have the money and spend more time in a resort- a deluxe would be cool too! (especially a monorail one!) But, we love POFQ and it is our favorite!
Have a magical trip!!!princess:

Looks like we might be there at the same time this year! I leave in 50 days, I think :)

I should have said that I love POFQ too..it has a coziness about it that I don't find at other resorts. It's easy to find your way around and it is not overwhelming.

In September I stayed at GF for the first time - it reminded me why I so loved the monorail resorts when my children were young (and as teens when they could make their way back to the resort alone!).

There is a real thrill being right on the monorail and you truly feel you are far, far from the real world. It's very easy with little ones. Still, I like having the extra money I've saved to use for other things on vacation. Every now and then I will continue to treat myself to a monorail resort :) Esp with the fabuous codes Disney has put out the last few years.

People's choice of a resort is so individual and it is great to ahve so many options!!

See you December!!
