POFQ or WL

We are currently booked for POFQ for the end of January. We are now wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a standard room at WL. We have 2 children (4 & 1) and plan on spending most of our time at MK. We are thinking that it would be nice to be staying closer to MK - since we will be probably going back to the resort in the afternoon for a nap. We also thought that having a balcony would be nice to have while baby is napping.

Is the trasportation times (bus/boat) much quicker between MK & WL than to POFQ. I've also read that not all rooms at WL have balconies/patios. What are the chances that we could get one in January.

Thanks,
Kristi

YES, YES upgrade to the WL. We will be there in less than a week and I swear it's one of the most magnificent hotels I've ever been in. There is no comparison between the two. We've stayed at POFQ once and this will be our 4th stay at the WL. The difference in ambience, dining, proximity to the MK, the location, everything is superior. It's on Bay Lake and you can take a boat right to the MK, avoiding the TTC. This is not to say that POFQ isn't lovely and captures the Disney magic throughout, because we enjoyed our stay there very much. Definitely upgrade to the WL.

Hope this helps!

I forgot - you shouldn't have any trouble getting a balcony room in January. Just call again and tell CR that you want a balcony. They'll put it on your reservation. Remind the CM when you check in.

In your opinion, are the rooms at WL much better than the ones at POFQ? Or is it the public areas and general ambience of the resort that you prefer?

I agree upgrade to the WL. You will love it!!! The theming is wonderful. The boat ride to MK is very nice. They have activities going on for the kids! It is really a beautiful hotel! IT is our favorite.

It's not so much about the room. They're lovely at both resorts. However, the rooms at the WL have double sinks with pewter fixtures, which adds to the deluxe feel of the hotel. I think it has more to do with the ambience, which is simply second to none. The theming of the WL makes it a stand-out. When you walk into the lobby, it literally takes your breath away. Also, the pool overlooks Bay Lake, which adds to the atmosphere and you get to see the Electric Water Pageant nightly, which you do not get at POFQ. The restaurants are better, such as the Whispering Canyon Cafe, which is a hoot, and Artist Point, if you're looking for a fancier meal. They also have the Roaring Fork, which is counter-service. I promise you, you can't go wrong if you upgrade to the WL.

We're booked at POFQ for mid-October. I keep hoping they'll extend the free dining so that I can justify upgrading to WL!

WL, while not one of my favorites to stay at, is a magnificent resort. The rooms aren't so hot, but the resort as a whole is very cool. The transpo to MK will be far better for you. Based on that alone, I would do WL.

I too agree, upgrade to WL. You can also take the boat over to the FW Campground. You can take the kids to the petting zoo and have an inexpensive meal at Trail's End. We ate breakfast there one morning and it was very good. You can also ride the boat to CR for a meal and to the MK. The WL is a beautiful resort. We can't wait to stay there next Dec again.

Just back from POFQ, 1st and only time in a moderate. If you can swing it, by all means go with the WL! The theming is lovely and you will feel so much more connected there than at the POFQ. You also have access to the onsite restaurants as well as all of the monorail resort ones via boat. No flames please but POFQ was just not our cup of tea.

Thanks for all the posts. I think we would really love POFQ (small size, theme, pool) but I love that WL is much closer to MK and the resort looks beautiful.

We are going in October also and am keeping my fingers crossed that they will extend the free dining for the same reason.. :goodvibes

Upgrade...

WL is only a quick boat ride or bus ride away from MK.. the lodge is beautiful... well worth the extra dough!!

If you've got the means...definitely upgrade. You'll love the quick and relaxing boat ride over to the MK and easy accessibility to the other deluxe resorts. We are staying at POR this fall, but our hearts belong to WL! :flower:

If you can swing the money definately upgrade to Wl. It is a magnificent hotel. The lobby alone will take your breath away. It is very relaxing and has great ambience. On my three stays I always found it to be very peaceful and quiet(and two of those stays were in busy July). The pool area is wonderful, and the view out to bay lake is lovely. Also the transportation(with the possible exception of the bus to DTD) is very good. We took the boat whenever possible and always found it to be a pleasant, relaxing and quick ride. POFQ is very nice and I would not hesitate to stay there but it pales in comparison to the WL.
