I plan on taking the Carriage Ride that evening of our arrival. Has anyone taken this ride? What was it like? If anyone could give us some of their experiences it would be nice. My 2 boys have no idea about the whole trip. We are going late August so I don't want to wish the summer to end.

Sounds like a great trip!!

The Carriage Rides begin at Riverside

Here's a very good site you might enjoy - loads of info about both resorts: www.portorleans.org

From the site:
Horse-drawn Carriage Rides

Take a relaxing, old-fashioned horse & carriage ride through the beautiful and serene woodlands and pathways of the Port Orleans resorts. Your private ride commences at the Port Orleans Riverside marina dockside (just behind the lobby building) and takes you on a slow and romantic journey along the banks of the Sassagoula River to Port Orleans French Quarter, where you will turn around in its quaint New Orleans-style streets for your return journey back to Riverside.
The cost is $35 including tax for the 25-minute set route and the carriage can hold up to four adults, or three adults and two small children (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). You should arrive at the marina no later than 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time and wait for the carriage to collect you. The service may be cancelled in cases of inclement weather.
  • Departures are every 30 minutes during scheduled operating hours, which are normally 5:30pm - 9:30pm. There is usually a short rest break at 7:30pm so that time slot may not be available.
  • Reservations are recommended and can be made up to 90 days in advance on 1-407-WDW-PLAY (1-407-939-7529). A credit card is required to confirm but this will only be charged for no-shows or cancellations at less than 24-hours notice.
  • Guests wishing to check on same-day availability may call 1-407-824-2832, and walk-up guests will be accepted at the departure location if there is no pre-booked reservation for that time slot.
  • Final payment should be made directly to the carriage driver in cash. Credit Cards are not accepted, but you may charge the ride directly to your room by using your Key to the World key card.
  • Due to the nature of the carriages they are not wheelchair accessible. Guests must be able to exit from wheelchairs and step up into the carriage.
Hope this helps!! Have a great trip!:goodvibes

We are going to be at POFQ for our first stay at the resort this August, from the 4th through the 14th. We're very excited and wanted to take the carriage ride our first night, also. But, we decided to wait because we don't land until 5 p.m. I'm not sure if I should make a ressie from home to schedule the ride for another night, or if should we just wing it. Do they book up way in advance? I'm also worried about scheduling the ride and then having it be canceled due to a rainstorm. In August, the late afternoon, early evening weather is so iffy.

We did this in Nov after dinner at Boatwrights and enjoyed it very much. Went from POR to POFQ and back. The driver took our picture and answered our boy's questions about the horse. The ride lasted around thirty minutes. We made our reservations about two hours before our ride. If you can, I'd recommend making ressies so you can take your ride after dark. :)

We did the same as Tink888 mentioned and we enjoyed it VERY much. We did it around 9:00 p.m. We'd do it again.

We loved the carriage ride there. We also did the one at Fort Wilderness and loved that one too, they were very different rides. We loved hearing the horse's hoofs under the bridge on our POFQ ride, it was so relaxing. After we finished the ride, we took the boat to DTD. When we were approaching the bridge, the carriage was there at the same time, and our boat driver stopped the boat so he could listen to the clip-clop too. I would recommend a reservation just to make sure you get to do it when you want to.
