I'm trying to figure out the world of podcasts. I've downloaded "downcast" onto my iphone. I figured out how to find the podcasts and have downloaded several and listened to them. I haven't figured out how to find the older podcasts. And is there video involved, as well. If I listen to them, on my laptop instead, will I see video as well as hearing them? Sorry - not sure if I'm doing all of this correctly.

Thanks!

I don't use downcast.

Direct links to the older podcast sound files are generally available in the archives: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-podcast/archives.htm Some older podcasts may not yet have direct links.

There is an RSS Feed page http://www.disunplugged.com/podcast.xml which you should be able to use to automatically add the old podcasts.

I think others might use downcast so they may be able to explain how that works.

Right now, the video podcasts are not available for download (including on your laptop). You should subscribe to the youtube and livestream channels.

The easiest way to get introduced to podcasts is probably to use either the music app on your phone or to download Apple's podcasts app. That being said, I love Downcast, but I've been listening to podcasts for about 5 years now.

I know you can find some older episodes on itunes, or download them directly from the podcasts page of this site.

But, to make it easier on you, open up Downcast and follow these instructions:

(1)in the "Podcasts" screen (the main screen), click on The DIS Unplugged.
(2) scroll down the list of episodes until you see "View other available episodes" at the bottom of the list. Click on that.
(3)You can then scroll through the old episodes and select which ones to download or stream.

BTW, you may have to go into the settings and adjust some things to make sure some episodes don't get auto-deleted on the next refresh. One of the great things about Downcast is how customizable it is. That, however, can make it complicated as well. I highly advise you go to its support page and read through the articles, especially the ones on the settings.

What's the difference between streaming and downloading? Does streaming use less data? Thanks

When you listen to streaming audio (or watch streaming video), you hear/see it as it is received by your device. Or almost as it is received; there is some buffering involved). You need an active internet connection to stream.

The data is not stored on your device, although I believe Downcast will remember where you were in the stream, so if you pause, leave, and come back later, you can start off where you left.

Downloading is "installing" the data to your device. It resides on your device, and you can use it even while you do not have any internet connection.
