Anyone ever been to the Poconos? What's a good place to stay?

Where in the Poconos are you going? depending on where you are going I may be able to give suggestions.

Mskanga...We live in western Pennsylvania and a friend suggested we go to the Poconos. Never been there but I hear it's a nice get-away.We don't have a specific area in mind. We're open to suggestions.

Are you looking for a family or adults only getaway?

I grew up in the poconos, and worked at the Shawnee Resort for quite some time. It's a nice resort with a good amount of activities, but I'm not sure how you go about getting a place if you're not a member, I could probably find out for you.

Also there's Caesars (I think 2 different ones), if you're looking to sit in the big champagne glass :p .

fernwood is nice too, they have a nice golf course, and a hotel you can stay at without being a member. They're close to a spot on the river (as is shawnee) if you're interested in canoeing or any other river type activities.

hope this helps some.
tricia.

I used to stay at the Fallsview (in Ellenville, NY) every winter while I was growing up. I think the Neville--which was the resort next to it--bought it out a few years ago. I loved it! We'd go tobanning, snow-tubing, cross country skiing, ice skating...it was such a great get-away!!

The Neville is still open, though. And I have heard good things about them...

Cesears Brookdale Resort is for families. They have the champagne glass suites, but also have family oriented suites. If your a couple going I would do Cesears Paradise Stream since thats where they have all the "bigger"entertainment.

We honeymooned at Caesar's brookdale! We didn't have the champagne glasses but we had the heart shaped tub, LOL. Of course this was in 1986 and we could actually fit in one.
It was pretty nice. DH bought a nice hat that said "Caesars"--but then we figured out he couldn't wear it here at home because that is the name of a transvestite show bar! ;)

That's the catskills , not the poconos.

battricia has pretty much covered the area for you, those would also be my suggestions.
