Okay all you budget board folks, you helped me with an ebay dilemma, now I have another question. Last night I broke out my kids new Halloween costumes to let them try on (they came last week from disney stor sale!) and my kids were so excited. DS 3 joyously romped in his new Stitch, DS 6 galloped around in his Bullseye, and DD5 somehow ended up with blue permanent ink all over her new Pocahontas costume!!!!! Blobs of it! on the sleeves and all down the front. When my DH and I questioned her about where the ink came from She broke out in tears. Poor little thing and poor me! I couldn't believe it :confused3 HOW DO I GET THE INK OUT? Any secrets? I have never been able to succeed in the past. I might be able to find some beads or appiques to cover it. I have faith in all you ingenious ones! Help us de-ink our girl!

I have had luck gettink ink out of/off of things with hairspray. Also rubbing alcohol works pretty well (as alcohol is a main ingredient in most hairsprays). Use liberally and you should be able to get it out. Good Luck!

One of those Mr. Clean sponges got ink off of our Leap pad. Idon't know how it will do on cloth though.

Good luck.

Maggie

Thanks ZanneMarie and Maggiew

Both your response are helpful. I will try the alcohol on the dress and maybe even on the DH's white apple laptop! DD got a lot on that too! I am not familiar with a mr clean sponge. I'll look for those next time shopping. Thanks so much! There is always so little drama in our house!!!!!! :rotfl:

In my market there carry a line of stain removers. One for ink, one for blood, one for ketchup, etc. I'm not sure of the name brand. The store that I go to did not have them in the detergant aisle as I would have thought, they were in the aisle with the cloths dyes and light bulbs, etc. I think they are all in small yellow bottles. Good luck!

be very careful with the rubbing alcohol on the laptop. make sure you really concentrate it in one spot, because if it gets inside somehow on the screen the screen could get damaged. it could cause the screen to lose its luster. (i've done this before not realizing what i was using had alcohol in it and it never looked clean after that.) good luck!

stain stick works wonders too. Ive gotten ink out of white shirts before with it. apply generously, let set about an hour then wash as normal but dont put in the dryer.

aquanet hair spray! Might not want to use it on the laptop, though!

Magic Wand stain remover stick! I buy mine at Joann Fabrics. I've used this to remove small amounts of ink, don't know how it will work on large amounts. Just a word of caution on the Mr. Clean sponge, it can be abrasive.
Good luck!!

although I believe the hairspray might work if done right away. If this is an expensive costume take to a dry cleaner. They will get it out with no problem, and they wont ruin the fabric.

good luck

denatured alcohol (bought from a hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes) gets out permanent ink. Do a small spot first and use a q tip. I is very strong, and you'll want to wash it before she wears it. I have used it on my tv, floors, and my husbands shirts.

Hi everyone-

there looks like there are great tips here. I have not attempted yet. But will try tomorrow. Our drycleaners has never gotten our ink stains out! We thought they should be able to. The alcohol sounds like a plan. I will get some tomorrow and try a small spot. I will let you know if I can resurrect this beautiful costume! Thanks again to all of you. These boards are an endless source of great info on so many different things!

rubbing alcohol is my guess it has worked from time to time in the past. Let us know how it goes

Hairspray, but *only* the kind in an aerosol can. I've been told that it is not the hairspray itself that gets the ink out, but an ingredient of the propellant?...I think some form of ether.

agnes!

The brand is Carbona and they are wonderful. My SO left a pen in his pants and it got washed. There was ink on several pieces of clothing, but the Carbona got it all out, not a trace of ink was left.

oxyclean. If you make it into a paste and let it sit overnight it works. My DH used to leave pens in his shirt pocket and I would never notice it until it came out of the dryer and all over the other clothes. Oxyclean has helped me save many shirts and jeans before.

NO MORE INK! POCAHONTAS IS PERFECT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks you guys.
I got the nerve this am to try the alcohol- it was not really working (only had rubbing). Then I popped back on and 2buzzboys suggested oxyclean overnight. Well I had the new oxyclean liquid (i love this stuff) poured a little on and poof the ink disappeared! A few of the spots took some rubbing a reapplications but it worked perfectly. I am so happy! Thanks to all you great people.

That's great news. I always see those commercials and wanted to try it. I might get some now!
