Do they have preferred rooms at PO-Riverside? If they do, which buildings are they and how much extra do you have to pay? Do they have the carriage rides in Jan. and is it more to request a king bed?

There are no "preferred rooms" that you have to pay extra for. In the AB section lodges 14, 15 and 18 are the closest to the main building. If you stay in the mansion section Oak Manor is the closest to the main building. We prefer the AB section.
The carriage ride is all year unless they've recently changed it. (you could call the hotel to find out, 407-934-6000.
Rooms are the same price whether you have a king bed or two doubles.

Have a great time.

There are waterview rooms that cost $15 extra per night.

As for standard rooms, I believe you can request a king bed without an extra charge, but it is not guaranteed. Prices start at $134 in value season.

However, you can book a king bed for a little extra. We specifically booked a king at POR and it's $15 extra per night.

To my mind the room "view" does not necessarily make the room "preferred". Most hotels have "price difference's" because of the "view", this "view" does not make the room "preferred". "Preferred" rooms are usually those with the most convenient location.

We have asked for and received king beds on numerous occasion and never paid extra for it.

Waterview rooms are generally a bit more money per night. Additionally, kingbeds are $15 more per night. When I went to checkin back in Nov. 2003, I had asked if I could be place in a kingbed room as I was a solo. I was informed kings are $15 more per night. As to where the king bedrooms are located at in PORS, they are generally the corner rooms and have two windows instead of one.

We stayed there last June and requested Magnolia Terrace. I felt the location was great! There was a nice quiet pool near the room, but we were also close to Old Man Island. It was centrally located to the restaurant/food court and it was really close to the bus stop. I would recommend it.

"Preferred"? No, not exactly. But they do break down the views by standard and waterview. We have had each. Have also stayed in AB and in Magnolia Bend. Would I pay the extra for a 'water-view' again? No, but a water-view room is the same price as a king bed room. And you could get a water view along with the king bed. That would be okay. But, since we got only a peek at the riverway, if we went out the door and hung over the railing, in our Magnolia Terrace room and had a view of the quiet pool in AB, I don't think it is really worth the extra just for a water view. The king bed would be worth paying extra for.

As far as which section do we prefer? I love the Mansion area. But, even tho we stayed in bldg. 35 (I think that was what it was) in the Bayou area, I loved the quietness there. Yes, it was much further away from the food court and the main bldg but we had a 2 minute walk to the bus stop for our area. And the walk in the morning to get coffee was so peaceful..bunnies hopping, ducks quacking. And it was only about an 8 minute walk. Mansion section is more formal and the bldgs. have three floors. AB much more rustic and only 2 floors.

Well, you can request a king bed when booking a standard room. However, to guarantee that you get one, you must reserve and pay extra for it.

I can appreciate you doing this and the fact that it has worked out for you, but I want to make sure I have a king bed when I check-in (not wanting to share a double bed for a week with the DH! :earseek: ). I am willing to pay the extra $15 a night to get that specific room type.

I personally do not think the water "view" is worth the extra money at POR. I was just clarifying that there are different room types to book at POR.

That is what I used to think but was told by other board members (and I confirmed it at check-in) that we could have a mansions room and they would just bring in a rollaway bed.
