We've decided to stay at the PO but not sure riverside or French Quarter, and where is best in each, aligator bouyu or masions. It will be myself, 10 year old and husband. Pros and cons or each would be great. We're going in December so the pool probably won't be a factor.

Thanks!

I've never been there, but I will tell you what was recommended to me as I was in your same situation. We went with FQ because we were told by other post-ers that the area is smaller so everything is within walking distance. Since you have a kiddo, you might like the trundle beds that RS has to offer. Check out allears.net to see the pictures!

My vote is for the French Quarter - mostly because of its size. We found everything to be very close by. None of the rooms were far from the pool, the lobby or the dining area. My DD and DS LOVED the slide at the pool. The dining area had something for everyone - and we found the portions to be large enough that most of the time I ordered a kids meal for myself. The staff was great.... good luck with your decision.

I loved Riverside (Alligator Bayou)--Of course, I've only stayed onsite once and it was at POR, but we were so sold on the place that when we go again, we'll definitely choose that as our Resort of choice.

The grounds are beautiful and the food court in the main building is awesome. The building we stayed in was just a short walk to the bus stop, to the main building and we had a lovely view from our room of the river. The rooms were comfy and nicely decorated.

We've never stayed at POFQ but have stayed in POR, both AB and MB. The rooms in AB are much more rustic...almost like they cut down trees and used branches to make the bedposts and such. Quilt type bedding. The bldgs. only had two levels and were much more secluded.
The rooms in the MB area were more formal in style. Cherry type wood finish. Most of the bldgs. (Oak Manor, Arcadia House, Magnolia Terrace etc.) were three levels but there are elevators. We stayed in Magnolia Terrace on our last visit to POR. We walked across Ole Man Island to get to the Food Court and used the main bus stop there. It was about a 6-7 minute walk. When we stayed in AB we were waaaay in the back of the area and it was only an 8 minute walk to the food court area. We did use the bus stop in back of our bldg area tho. I have to say that the walk to get coffee in the morning was really nice from AB. Lots of wildlife around and it was very peaceful.
The arcade was pretty good also, as was the food court. I can't think of any downsides to POR, at least from our visits.

Have only stayed at POR but would recommend it. In my opinion, POR is much more of a "get away from it all" type of resort whereas POFQ, I've heard, is a lot more "happening". The buildings are more spreadout, but I think that makes you feel like you have fewer neighbors. No sit down restaurant at POFQ and Boatwright's at POR is great. Also, when we were at POR, because they share a boat to DTD, the POFQ people were sometimes passed up by boats that filled up at POR (strict limits based on lifevests).

Whichever you stay at, take an evening boat ride to DTD. You will pass the old Treehouse villas (now defunct) and they are an interesting site at night all deserted like that.

I think after doing a little reaearch we have decided on POR and the alligator bayou. My son wants to try the fishing and I like the looks of that area better. I know we will probably go to DTD one night just for the boat ride alone.
