I need suggestions on buildings, etc...

It is just me and my 6yo DD... I know I want non smoking, and we have a water view room... convenience to transportation would be best...

Also, how difficult is it to get from PO FQ to the Poly (we will haev to rely on Disney transportation)? We are planning on attending the Luau on the 25th... any opinions on this?

PO-FQ is very small compared to the other resorts, so no matter what building you are in, you won't be far from anything.

We were in Building 3 and loved it!

I'm not sure of the fastest way to get to Poly. We always have a car. There are no busses that go to Poly, so you'll have to go to a park and then transfer to Poly.

We've stayed at POFQ twice. Building 4 is really close to the bus stop but doesn't have much of a water view. If you want the water view to be of the river you will be at the back of the resort but since it's a small resort it isn't that much farther. If you want a view of the pool I'd say building 5 would be convenient to the food court, pool and bus stop.
According to the Disney Transportation Guide I got last week they suggest that to get from resort to resort you should go to Downtown Disney and take the bus to the next resort. The boat ride from POFQ to DD is relaxing and a nice change of pace.

Candleonwater, my young daughter and I stayed at PO-FQ last month: click here to view my review of the resort. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay at PO again. If you go to my thread, you'll find links in it to the map of the resort, some of my photos, etc.

In regards to getting to the Poly for the Luau, I would consider taking a taxicab. I never have a car while on property and either rely on the WDW transportation system or taxicabs. When I need to be at a certain place at a certain time, taxicabs are the only way to go. Most taxicab rides will be in the $10 - $15 range (it has been rare that a fare has been greater than $20). I did not take a taxicab while I was at PO-FQ, so I cannot tell you the exact fare between there and the Poly. If you want to take a Disney bus, you would take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then transfer to either the monorail or a water taxi (boat). I would plan on a minimum of one hour to do this because you just never know what the WDW bus schedule will be like when you need it. If you plan on an hour, you should easily make it to your reservation in time.

I don’t know what time your Luau reservation is. If it is before the MK closes (or at least within an hour of its closing), taking a bus to the MK would be the way to go, and then transferring to the monorail or a Poly/GF water taxi (boat).

If your reservation is for after the MK has closed (at least an hour after it has closed), you would take a bus to DD and then transfer to a Poly resort bus. I would plan on longer than an hour to do this. The DD buses have been some of the buses for which I have waited the longest (sometimes almost an hour, yikes). It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

One last thought, since you're at PO-FQ, you could take a boat to DD and then walk to its bus stop and board the Poly bus. I'm not sure how long it would take to walk from the dock to the bus stop. Hopefully someone here knows the answer.

Okay, I've studied the map... and from what I understand... the smoking buildings are 2, 4 and part of 6... so I've scratched them off my list... I think it does look like 5 is my best bet... any pluses/minuses on the view (pool vs River)? Lower floor vs higher?

I see that they have Bike and Boat Rentals... what kind of boats?

Also, my daughters best friend (and her family) will be coming in for a night while we are there, but I don't know what kind of room they have reserved... assuming Standard View... are there standard view rooms in Bldg 5?

Seems like the easiest way to get to the poly would be to take a bus to the MK and then the monorail to the poly.

The boat you would probably be interested in is the Water Mice. They are small boats and seat 2 people. We rented on for my kids, ages 14 and 11. My eleven year old was not supposed to be in a boat without an adult but the CM's couldn't agree, so the one actually working with the boats let her go with her brother while the one in the office spazed out over it. She's almost 12 anyway, one more month. It cost $22 for a minimum of 1/2 hour, longer of course, would cost more.

I'm not sure what the bikes cost but I think that it is about the same. The surrey bikes looked like fun but we didn't rent them.
