I've been trying to convince the other couple my DH and I are going with that they'll have no problem doing the rides. They are both trying to lose weight before then, but will both probably still be in the 250's at best (they are both about 5'9"-5"10 and around or at least 300lbs). We're getting them in shape for all the walking we'll be doing (DH and I logged 15 miles a day, even when I was 235lbs myself - I'm 5'6" and much smaller now. :) Dh is one of those irritatingly lean guys who can eat whatever he wants and not gain an ounce.), but they are bound to still be fairly heavy by the time we get there.

I've told them that there isn't 1 single ride in the parks, TL, or DQ that they can't do due to thier size.
So far, the only thing I've thought of is it may be pretty uncomfortable squished side by side in Primeval Whirl.

Do ya'll agree? It'll be their first trip.

They'll fit. My husband is 6'3 and 300 lbs and he rides everything!!

Have fun,

Lory

They won't have any trouble at all. I am 5'9" and was about 215 my last trip (May 2004, I am a bit smaller now). I can't recall feeling squished in anything. I don't think I was thrilled with any of the photos they take while on the rides. . .but who looks good in those anyway! :confused3

Yup - Even though I've lost my weight, I still cringe at some photos. I'm really glad that that isn't the case NEARLY as often as it used to be...(as long as my hips, thighs and butt manage to stay outta' the picture). ;)

JDarling,

The only place in all of WDW that I had any trouble was at the SciFi Dine In. They escorted us to the "car table" and it was WAY to small for me. I didn't fit. It was embarassing. I thought I'd give you a heads up, so your friends don't get embarassed too.

Thanks Shelly! We were thinking we might stop in there for dessert sometime, as we're all big B sci-fi movie fans and my DH and I have enjoyed it before. But now we might just enjoy it on the part of our trip that is just the 2 of us - w/o our friends.

There is a section on Deb's site allearsnet.com called WDW at Large that gives information on this very topic. Lots of reader comments on what people have had trouble with.

I agree with you about Primeval Whirl, I even felt squished in on that ride with my average self, small gf, and two little kids. Splash Mountain can be a little cramped too. There shouldn't be anything that they can't ride, just a few things that will be a tight squeeze.

I have been really apprehensive about this. I am on a weight loss regime because I need to be. Our December trip to WDW was a major catalyst for my decision to start the plan because I was concerned about "fitting" on the rides.

I'm happy to say that my weight loss is going well but I still have quite a bit to lose and I won't be exceptionally small by December. I have been really concerned until I found this site: WDW at Large.

This site has photos of the ride vehicles and information about their design. It has tips and recommendations for where to sit on each of the rides (even numbered cars, the right-hand side, back row, etc). It also contains first-hand comments from people of all sizes who have ridden the various rides. Most of the comments are extremely candid and reading them helped me to feel much better about my own upcoming trip.

The short of the site is that most people will fit on all of the rides. Your friends should be fine. I would recommend that you send them to the website and let them look at everything on their own. I can almost guarantee that it will make them feel better. Have a wonderful trip!

Becka - Thanks for that info! :) I read through it and it reminded me so much of what it was like for me. Granted, I'm still not "tiny" at a size 14/16, but when I was a 24, that seat belt trick was exactly what I had figured out...

Now... if only to get the gal over her "OMG people are gonna see me in a swimsuit" thing... I don't want her to miss out on TL! When I last went in 2003, even though I was down 80lbs, my swimsuit still dug into my hips in a rather unsightly manner and my thighs - ugh! I'm still struggling with that one! LOL AND my crew included ALL GUYS (DH and 2 male friends of ours). But by the time I was in the first pool, none of it mattered anymore. :) I just forgot about it and started having fun. Anyone else have some suggestions for helping her see herself as big and beautiful, rather than ugly? Even when her DBF tells her she's beautiful she says "you're wrong". Blah! I've encouraged her to lose weight for health reasons (and her DBF is doing great - down 30lbs!), but ya know, for some of us it's an uphill battle.

Standing at 6' 5" and tipping the scales at 385 lbs, the ONLY ride i had a problem with at WDW was the teacups. The wheel in the center was just way to much pressure against several parts of my anatomy. If you ever have any Questions before youride, just ask the CM's they are great about easing your fears

I'm large and have never had a problem on anything. We are going again in November and this time I'm bound and determined to be down. I've done 50# so far and kept it off several years now, so I'm going down again. DH is "Athletic Director" and we do one exercise thing a day and I'm the Family Chef and keep us eating healthy at the right calories.

He was telling me today about how I should look at it like this is how I'm going to eat. I said, I've done that for years and that attitude hasn't worked, I'm on a DIET, period. I gotta eat less than I'm going to, to get the weight off, then I can adjust to what will help me maintain. So he said, Well, you could call it your "Magical Disney Diet". Now doesn't THAT make it sound fun!!!
