I am a plus sized women and making my first family trip to universal in a month. I had no problems on any dosney rides last year but I have heard rumors that at universal it is harder to fit into seats. Do they have those embarassing "tester" seats before rides? If so which rides?

Hoping I can ride everything with my kids?

Please help

I remember seeing test seats outside of Dueling Dragons & Dudley Do Right.

I'm sure someone else can tell you the rest..

They have them outside the hulk coaster, dueling dragons coaster and the men in black ride. I'm not sure where else. Them mummy ride has more room if you sit in the back row.

The test seats are in front of:

Incredible Hulk (must be able to buckle seatbelt)
Doctor Doom's Fearfall (must be able to buckle seatbelt)
Ripsaw Falls
Dueling Dragons (must be able to buckle seatbelt)
Mummy (must be able to see yellow tape)

Plus size here and I had no problems on the type rides I ride.. LOL.. none of the above one would I get on.. ROFLMAO..
anyway I will be glad to share my trip report with you/pictures so you can see\/hear what we rode and I fit on.. On the water ride in IOA as you get on just tell them you will need the bigger seat belt.. they are awesome at setting it up and not making you feel like a house in front of everyone..
I don't know how to share pictures in here but will email you if you would like.
Angela :::wishing I was back at IOA/US right now::::::::::::

Glad you had a good time and didn't have any issues. :teeth:

As far as posting pictures, you have to post the pictures on a photo sharing website like Photobucket in order to post. It's not hard and lots of us do it.
:thumbsup2

A thing to be aware of on the test seats is that there are 2 in front of the coasters..one is the regular seat and one is the "bigger seat". What I did find embarrasing was all the little kids and adults sitting on them chatting and playing while I wanted to see if I could fit...my problem is a bigger chest...I wish people would use a little sense....

Cool.. I will have to get my pictures on photobucket so I can share. :) :surfweb: now to see if I can do it.. :)

Hubby and I were going to do couple days at Universal Orlando while on our Honeymoon in 2005, but we ended up barely staying a day!

Hubby and I are both "Pooh Sized" and he is also Tall. We have NO problems at Disney and LOVE Coasters and Action Rides.

We didn't fit on more than half the rides there!!! We were SO excited to ride the Hulk and Mummy, only to be disappointed at the test seats...

Both of their parks have the test seats, which while it was embarassing to not fit in them, it probably would have been worse had we waited an hour in line only to find we didn't fit once inside.

We're both trying to lose weight, but I don't forsee going back there for a pretty long time... (or at least until after Harry Potter Opens) ;)

The average woman is a size 14 these days and only 5'5 tall or something. I am a size 10, and 5'8- yet when I go to thrill ride parks like Cedar Point, six flags etc, the seats are SO TINY! I wonder how a size 14 or 16- the AVERAGE size person could fit! My husband is 5'7 and has a 36 waist-he's not a big guy, but the 2 of us together struggled a bit on some of the coasters- particularly the ones that have 1 seat and expect 2 people to sit side by side.

IMO- a size 10 woman along with a size 36 waisted man should fit more than comfortably on these rides and we were squished on some. I truly don't understand why these rides are designed to not fit the AVERAGE person these days.

if you have a camera with you, sit in the test seat out front, and have a friend take your picture in it.

many people do that even if they don't plan to get on the ride.

by doing it that way, no one will be able to know if you are checking out the seat for size/fitting for yourself or just taking a picture.

kids are always playing in the seats. adults too hang out there just to chat.
just tell them, "excuse me, we need a pic for our photo book of the ride".
they will step aside for you then. piece of cake.

the back seats on the hulk have seat extenders for those that are in need of it.

wish i could say i needed it.....

That is brilliant! Thanks so much for the tip! I am a very shy person and it kills me to try it out...

EXCELLENT advise for all those who need to test the seat out!!!:thumbsup2

If I remember correctly, on certain rides there are rows where the seats are wider than the other rows.

Can someone tell me which rides and which rows?

Thanks

dark marauder listed them before.

i don't remember all of them but do know the back seats in the hulk are wider and have the extenders.

i sat there last year and the TM asked me to move to another row as there were 4 guests that needed the last row.

i moved, no problem, they got on the last row and everyone had a great ride.

i am thinking it is the front seats for dueling dragons, if i have that wrong, someone will correct me.

if you don't get an answer, send darkie a pm to ask him.

i took pictures of a stranger one day at the hulk
the woman was shy and alone and wanted to do the ride but too many people were hanging on the trial seats out front.

i could see she was upset and asked if i could help her.
she just said she was too embarrassed to try the seats and the adults were hogging them visiting.

i told her, pretend i'm taking our picture with my camera.
go sit in the seat like you are posing for a picture.

she liked that idea.

i went over to the people and said, i hate to bother you all but i want to take a picture of someone in the seats, could you give us a minute or so to do that? the people were so apologetic for hogging the seats, they were glad i asked them as they know how much fun it is to have pictures after a trip.

no one knew my camera wasn't on.
the lady tried the seat and she fit.

everyone was happy then.

it is an easy solution to the problem.

no one wants to get to the top of a ride, be seated and then find out the seats aren't accomodating. the trial seats out front solve that issue.

Both the Hulk and Dueling Dragons have signs before you get on the ride that say which row has a modified seat. Basically it has a longer seat belt. It's no big deal and nothing to be embarassed about. I go with my brother sister and father. My father is the one who needs the seat and rides fine. He's 6'1" and im guessing 200lb? Anywho he usually fits fine in everything. Have fun on your trip and don't worry so much!:thumbsup2
