I'm hoping some of the plus size brides can help me with this...

I'm very scared to go dress shopping right now. I'm about a size 28 (like, somewhere between that and a 30) and even though I'm trying to lose weight it seems that our wedding may be moved up by almost 10 months since my entire family has decided that because it is my second wedding, they don't need to be there for it (we were planning a Disney wedding) and if they're not there, we won't be able to have a custom wedding... actually that's just a big old huge rant and story that I'll save, you all don't need to hear my tears lol.

Well if it gets moved up like I think it's going to, then we need to start dress shopping very soon! But, I'm not exactly sure what I should do. I may be in a size 26 by fall, maybe... but dresses are still going to be hard to come by.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'd really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Congrats on your upcoming Disney wedding! I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with your family, feel free to vent on here about it whenever you need to  I was about a size 26 when we started planning our wedding, so I did do some searching around for that size. The stores nearby me didn't have much, the best styles I could find were on the internet. (I ended up losing weight and buying my dress at David's bridal, but I thought their styles were pretty limited too). Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Goodluck in your search for a wedding dress :goodvibes

Alfred Angelo carries a great plus line and they are comparable in price with David's Bridal. :-)

My advice is to call the bridal shops in your area and ask if they carry plus sized gowns, and if they have any to try on. As you might already know wedding dresses are usually a size ot two larger than your everyday size, so feel free to ask about what sizes they do have to try on. I know that I was a bit frustrated that the shops that I went to didn't have too many in sizes 18-20.

Remember, dresses can be altered for weight loss.

sorry i cant help with the dress question, but you could still have your disney wedding, just do an intimate!!!

I am the same size as you. I actually ended up buying my dress of off ebay. I had been looking on there for styles, kind of trying to find thing that I like. I then started noticing that there are a lot of new dresses on ebay very reasonable. I knew that I didn't want one from China that someone had made, I'd heard to many bad things about those dresses. But there were a lot of regular ebayers that had either cancelled their wedding, or decided on a different dress and was selling their first choice extremely reasonable.

So, I found one that I fell in love with. The lady had great feedback, and the dress was new with tags. I asked for the measurements of the dress. They were very close to my own. The dress laced up the back, so I knew it was something that I could work with. So, I took a chance and bought it. I absolutely fell in love with it when I got it. It is the most perfect dress that I have ever seen. I love everything about it. And most importantly, I feel pretty in it!!!:bride:

Another option is you could have a dress made for you. I am 6'0" tall and a plus size (probably a 20) and I am seriously considering this. Every wedding I have been in the dress has been too short for me!!!

A LONG time ago, my senior prom, I had a dress made for me by a seamstress and it came out to be about the same as buying it off the rack!

Good luck and feel free to vent!!

We considered it. But really... an intimate just doesn't have the options we want. We decided to have the wedding at home instead as heartbreaking as the decision was for us. But neither of us really like the places for intimate weddings, nor the idea of not having a reception.

You might want to check out lanebryant.com They have a bridal section and they go up to size 32. I wish I would have known about them when I got married in 2003. They have the exact dress I was looking for.

When I was married several years ago, I had found a dress I loved in a magazine, and took it to a local bridal shop who carried the designer -Alfred Angelo and they were able to order the dress for me.

It is hanging in my mother's apartment in PA - I did not move it to FL with me, and I have considered putting it on EBAY, or taking it to a consignment shop since plus size things like that I would think are harder to come by!

Best of luck with your upcoming wedding~

(PS - I have NO IDEA what I am doing on the wedding board - I guess I noticed the Plus Size subject. I do venture over here now and then to check out the beautiful wedding photos though!)

I used to work at a bridal salon for about 2 years, and I know that there are several plus size lines, and many designers whose gowns can be ordered for you in your size. Diva by Paloma Blanca is an awesome plus size line, because they don't charge extra for bigger sizes like so many other designers do. Most samples you'll see from most designers are usually 10s or 12s, but don't lose heart. Call around and I know you'll be able to find a store that has plenty of plus size samples to try. And remember, even if it's not a perfect fit when you try on the sample, yours will be ordered in your size, and will look sensational on you!

I know that Alfred Angelo has a great plus size line and does not charge extra for it. This is the designer I went with for my gown. I agree with other posters that have recommended calling bridal salons and asking what sizes they carry, as there is no way you are going to get an idea of how a dress looks on you if you have to try it on 6-8 sizes too small. It was also my experiece when dress shopping that lots of bridal shops carry dresses in general in a size 10 which was not even going to go over my head! I eventually found several places that carried plus size gowns in a variety of styles and I felt so much more comfortable trying these dresses on. Also, even if you don't want to buy from David's Bridal I would recommend trying on different gown styles there as they carry many more dresses and styles in plus sizes and will be much more likely to find something that fits you. Get a feel for what styles you like, and then you can always order from another designer in a similar style. Best of luck, and remember there are many others who are going through the same thing, and no matter what you will look beautiful because you are the bride!:goodvibes

I a currently a 20-22 I ordered my dress from alfred angelo all of his dress come in plus sizes, I also got a straight dress which looks great. Your DF proposed to you and I am sure that he does't care what size you are when you get married. I went to a show with my DF and the comedian ask all the sexy plus size women to raise your hand of course my hand went up and my DF said you aren't plus size, I asked him if he ever saw any skinny people coming out of Lane Bryant.:rotfl:
