I am switching providers (form Verizon to Cingular) next week and need to buy a new phone. I was pretty much set on the RAZR phone, has all the features I want (good reception so they said was one of the top 3, camera phone and speaker), however; talking to a coworker at lunch today she told me that everyone she knew was having problems with these phone and the manufacturer has stopped making them. Does anyone know for sure if this is true? I don't want to dump $150 on something that is not up to par. If you have one could you please tell me if it is a good phone or a regretful purchase. Thanks!

My DD wanted one because, of course, all her friends had them. Now she is happy that I didn't get it because, apparently, there are some issues with them. Not sure what they are though.

Have you seen the new phone out that's even thinner than the RAZR?

My DD got a basic Nokia (it's not even a flip phone). It is very tiny, gets GREAT reception, has a speaker feature (which I love). We are pretty happy with that one. It was $69.00 but came with a $30 rebate.

DD15 has a RAZR phone and hasn't had any problems with it. She really likes the picture taking aspect, and especially enjoys randomly snapping pictures of herself.

However, there is a new, super-slim, nonflip, RAZR phone that is out and she has her eye on THAT one! We told her she could get it if she saves enough money to buy it. That'll never happen!! :teeth:

I bought a new Razr in Dec. -- had to have Cingular replace the entire phone once because it would not work and then they had to replace the battery because after 1 charge it would not recharge. Since then, however, I've had no problems. Reception is much better than my old phone. Love the features and the screen is larger than most phones (so for those of us with really old, tried eyes it's easier to see!).

Cingular recently pulled Razrs off the shelf because of a manufacturing defect, but once it is fixed they will start selling them.

The new Motorola phone is the Slvr (Sliver) -- it's a Razr without the flip part. Slightly larger than a Razr, but screen and keypad are in one piece now.

I got my RAZR about a month ago. I have trouble with the text message feature but I think that might be because it's so different than my old phone. I love the features and consider it one of the best phones I've ever bought (and thats a lot!!)

I haven't had my Razr for very long but I don't find it as user friendly as my Nokia. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with it.

I got mine in December and I love it. Haven't had any problems with it at all. I really like the fact that I can keep it in my pocket and my pocket doesn't stick out 5 inches!!!! I keep mine on me at all times since DS is insulin dependent and I want to be sure the school nurse can get in touch with me at all times!

I like, not love, mine... it's a bit big (wide) for my hand so it tends to get uncomfortable if I'm holding it for a time. I kinda like the look of the new SLVR but tend to prefer flip models...

Please please remember that if you have problems with Cingular to drop them before your 30 days are up. I had switched from Sprint to Cingular and I could not make or recieve a call that did not get dropped, and I live in a pretty good reception area, they even swapped out phones for me and I still had problems, needless to say I waited to long and ended up forking over $240.00 to get out of my contract with them and return to Sprint. I had to do that because I NEED a phone that works. The reception was so bad I found myself hovering near any window to make a call. It maybe better in your area but just be aware of how long your trial period is.

I love my RAZR. I got it in December. The news item I saw said that Motorola pulled all RAZRs made after 2/1 because of the problem.

My husband and I both got Razr phones in January when Radio Shack started selling Cingular service - it was a special promotion where the phone was $199.99 and Radio Shack had an immediate automatic rebate of $100.00 and then you mailed in a rebate form for an additional $70.00 rebate check back, so the total ended up being only $29.99 per phone! Plus they came with a Motorola Bluetooth Wireless headset FREE with another rebate form! That was probably one of our best deals ever! :thumbsup2

I haven't seen that deal again, but I did see one in the Circuit City ads for buy one Razr, get one free @ $99.99 with Verizon, but I don't know what the fine print is on that.....

Thanks for all the replies! I'm switching over because my hubby did years ago, and my DS is on his family plan and so it is a matter of me being put on his family share plan and saving $40 a month! Neither of them have ever had a problem with reception anywhere. So, I guess from all the replies, Just make sure I get a phone that was either made before 2/1 or more recently after they've fixed whatever problem it was. I was looking at the new slvr but they are extremely costly! If I could get a good deal I would get one of those. I just don't have $299 to shell out!!

Any other suggestions on a decently priced phone other than the razr?

I had the Motorola V551 phone. I got it last July. In September it would not hold a charge (Software error that prevented charging) and they replaced it. The second V551 failed in October. They wanted to send me another one, I complained and they upgraded me for free then. I have had no problem with the RAZR since. I have the black RAZR. One problem is that I loose it in my work bag all of the time (black in a black bag). The reception seems very good.

I got mine a few months ago and I LOVE it! I haven't had any problems with it at all, plus I LOVE that I can make short videos with my phone not just pictures

I got my Razr last summer through Tigerdirect.com. They had a special where the phone was free if you signed up for a new service plan. The first phone I had developed problems with the key pad - number 8 & 0 wouldn't work. I called Cingular and got a replacement within 2 days. The new phone has worked great ever since.

I've had my Razr since October and I switched mainly because I was looking for something new and I wanted a phone that would fit into my really thin purses. Plus my cell provider had them on special for $99. I haven't had any problems with it so far no complaints either.

I got mine when they first came out, almost 2 years ago? They were really expensive back then and I haven't had a single problem with it. Just moved to a whole new area with no problems.

I have looked at the keypad on that one several times and it looks difficult to read, at least in light. Maybe in the dark it is better, but in light it is difficult, at least for my old eyes. I use an LG 6100, and use it a LOT, needs to be user friendly, again, at least for me, not just the 'in' model of the moment. I have read of a good number of problems. Check www.howardforums.com, similar to the DIS, just cell phone junkies rather than Disney junkies, LOL. I look there anytime I have a cell phone question.

Thanks again! I'm definitely not the type of person who has to have the 'in' phone. As a matter of fact, I never considered the razr before I knew I could get it for $99. I did a google on the razr and I guess there was a glitch in some of the phones but it has since been fixed. So unless there is a better deal coming out within the next week I think I'm gonna go with it. The video option sounds really kewl! Just hope I can download my disney ringtones on it! My very nice phone fell into a cup of coffee about 6 months ago and I've had a nasty old model that barely works this whole time waiting for my contract to expire....I am really missing my disney ringtones!!

Just bought a pink razr last week and I've been pleased with it so far. I have Cingular service. The problem with my previous phone was that it was "old" technology, and it was getting to the point where even if I could get a signal, the reception was fuzzy. I'm not sure I like the way the menu is set up, but I'll get used to it. I like the size of the razr and reception has been loud and clear. I would look around for some deals. I think the razr is being discounted now since the slvr came out.
