We were there in early August and I don't think I'll ever go again.
PI and the Adventurers Club were always one of the highlights of our trips. This time around it was just plain terrible. We had my parents and some friends of the family with us and had been telling them about the AC all week.
On our way in around 9:00 there were 9 Sheriffs cars parked outside at the curb. I guess that should have been my first indication that things had changed. We're not in Kansas anymore Toto.
Once we got inside it was just a labrynth of narrow passageways, construction walls and tarps. I was expecting some inconvenience due to the ongoing construction, but it was far worse than I had imagined.
We went straight to the AC where the disappointment continued. The entertainment was so bad it was embarassing. The improv in the main room was incredibly weak and even the scritped stuff in the library didn't work.
Maybe it was just an off night for the cast, but the whole area seems to have gone completely down hill.
Based on my experiences that night I have developed a theory that they are staffing the AC with low/no talent CM's so that when Disney finally annouces they are closing the place nobody will care.
They probably should bulldoze the place and put in somthing more interesting, maybe a perpetual tire fire (pay $5 and you get to toss in the next steel belted radial) or a medical waste dump.
It was that bad.
On the way out we walked through throngs of what I assume were locals acting in ways that didn't fit the Disney picture. Our entire group was uncomfortable. I guess we had a reason to be because there were now 14 police cars just sitting out front. The only time police show up in force like that is when they are trying to prevent problems or massing force to put down a problem once it starts.
My family spent a couple days at Universal and never got that feeling at City Walk, even with my 9 & 12 year old with us. It was a happy, pleasant, upbeat crowd with none of the beligerance of the PI folks.
Before I get blasted as a nattering nabob of negativity I have to say that in our 11 days there this was the only real downer. Everything else was as great as you would expect - CM's were awesome, housekeeping top notch, transportation from POR excellent, even the Brazillian tour groups weren't the problem that many have experienced. I'm as hard core Disney as they come, but from now on I'll be avoiding PI.
As always, your mileage may vary.
