Pleasure Island with kids?

My understanding is that admission to Pleasure Island grounds is free, is this correct? If so, if we were to go with the kids, is there anything entertaining if we don't go into any of the clubs or restaurants? Anything to do/see without having to go into a club/restaurant? Would we be able to attend the New Year's party?
thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, the NYE party is not really happening anymore (since it was centered around the stage that has been removed).

It's free to walk through, I think primarily to make it easier to traverse between the Marketplace and the West Side (and that there are shops there).

I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO GET ME FLAMED, BUT:

I personally do not care for children being in the Adventurer's Club, since it tends to hinder the actors. Even though they don't use four-letter words anyway (it IS Disney), they do shy away from the double-entendres/bawdy humor. Why should MY night out be "less than"? Sorry to be selfish, but as a willingly childless couple (isn't that one of the PERKS of being gay?), it's a nice breath of relief to get away from all the screaming/shrieking little ones at the end of the day! -- Enjoy the shopping at DTD, leave the adult places for the adults (you wouldn't bring them to your local bar/nightclub either).

it is free and there are a few carnival type games...also the Irish pub is a full service restaurant....but i do think kids would have more fun in Lego land and at the village then pleasure island...its just geared towards adults… no harm in looking around all the shops have closed and the outdoor stage is gone

No flames here! Totally agree about the AC. There was a 10 yr old in there and the show wasn't as fun. Who in the world brings their kids to a bar anyway? People who do that make me wonder.

And I don't care who flames me either for that last statement. I have no problem dealing with children everywhere else at WDW but PI is definitely adult time.

Sorry, I thought you couldn't even walk through it at night when it is open without paying...I thought there were actually turnstyles on the bridge. I know there is a sidewalk that goes around it...am I imagining this? When did admission become free?

Quite honestly, there isn't a lot at PI that kids will enjoy (unless they're old enough to be into dancing, etc). At one time it was a glorified street bar, now it's just sort of sad, but still has the feel of a bar spilling out into the street, in a much less 'glorified' way. I'd take the family to The Boardwalk for the evening, or spend your time at Downtown Disney instead. The one exception is Raglan Road, which is fabulous.

While I won't call anyone's offspring 'screaming/shrieking little ones', I have to agree having children at PI takes away from the adult atmosphere. They won't be kicked out, but having youngsters at Adventurer's Club does change the whole experience, and not for the better. Some of us need a shot of adult humor after a long day kissing Princesses and being sprinkled with pixie dust, and that won't happen in the one place it is SUPPOSED to happen, if children are present.

But again, Disney says it's ok for them to be there. However, your fellow club-goers are likely to cast unpleasant glances your way and judge you to be bad parents for taking the kiddies to a bar. If that doesn't matter (and it's your right not to let it matter), they'll certainly be allowed in. Just be forewarned....they won't be popular with the locals and even more importantly, they probably won't have as much fun as they'd have somewhere more suited to families.

We don't even bother going to Pleasure Island any more. We used to go to a movie, visit the West Side area and then hit the Pleasure Island clubs. Now, we just take an afternoon at DTD, shop at a couple of the stores, eat at Earl of Sandwich, get some ice cream, and then find something else to do. We liked the more adult atmosphere at PI. Now Disney has taken that away, there's just no reason for us to go.

Pleasure Island is free to visit, though going in the clubs does cost around $25 per person. I believe there is very little to do there for the kids and completely agree they would enjoy being elsewhere much more than going to PI.

That being said, I can't go along with the comment about leave the adult places for the adults. I'm certain that if I stated adults shouldn't visit with characters because these are geared for the kids and we should leave the kid things for the kids more than one person would be offended. If PI is for adults only then Disney should check id at the gate and refuse admission to anyone under the designated age. If Disney does not enforce an age verification program it is up to each parent to determine what is appropriate for their child.

I also spend less time at PI, although it's still pretty fun.

It used to be more of an adult scene, but now it's "take your 6-year old out to an adult party district at 11:30 at night" scene as well. The street used to be almost as rowdy (in a clean, fun way, of course) as the inside of the clubs themselves. It used to be at least be PG-13; now it's pretty much G rated.

I do find that I spend more time at both Marketplace and Westside now...which is fine because both are awesome.

I would only take my kids to PI if I wanted to expose them to drunks and potentially vulgar behavior/swearing/etc. I can't imagine ever wanting my kids to see that. The later you go the worse it gets. :smokin:

No flames from me either :thumbsup2 I have two little kids, but when I go out to PI, I would rather be amongst adults :goodvibes

I agree that kids should not be in the clubs and I would never take mine into one of them. I was at PI about 10 years ago, before I had kids, and remember what a blast the New Year's party was. I was hoping to take my kids to that but it is a shame that is no longer taking place.
No point in going then.

But adults visiting with characters does not take away from the experience for the kids. They are there with adults anyway so it's not like it's a kids only thing anyway.

However, at places like the Adventurer's Club, the humor tends to be bawdy and, when there are kids present, it turns into a G rated experience. I paid to see the original show, not the watered down version.

I agree - there isn't much for kids to do anyway and sometimes people there - even just out on the midway - can be drunk and rowdy so keep that in mind.
