I was really hoping they would keep Mannequins, but 8-trax is always busy and always crammed with people, so I can see where the move would make sense. Long live techno, even if it's not at Disney!
EDIT: If I had the money, I would offer Disney money to buy Mannequins and keep it where it is as it is with no changes. Anyone wanna help

BTW, spoke to a supervisor last night who confirmed 8TRAX is closing soon for a week for renovations but denied there was any plans to turn Mannequins into 8TRAX. So who knows what's really going on, if anything.

yes! DJ peapod! I went into Mannequins one night on my college program and asked where I could get some of the music they played and they pointed me to his website.

I worked extra hours at 8-trax as a door host a LOT in spring 2005 and became fairly good friends with the manager, who is now the manager at Mannequins. It is worth pointing out that I talked to him back in December about these rumors of PI essentially closing and he said no way, they make too much money. He also pointed out how they put new signs outside Mannequins, redid the bars, put in big screen tvs at Motion and all that stuff. Of course, Disney could just be trying to increase the value for an easy sell...who knows

It has always been my dream to open a club like Mannequins. I think the environment is unique and even though I was never able to witness it, I know they did a TON of extra stuff back before 9/11

I'm building business credit right now. Hopefully by January I'll have some cash at my disposal

well I was ALWAYS dancing, so I'm sure you'd remember me as well! If I stopped dancing people would ask whats wrong. I said I'm tired, I worked 8 hrs at the golf course and then came here to work more! aahh those were the days.

I sure hope the renovations mean they are keeping the clubs, not selling them off or closing them. Of course if they sell them off, I'll be there wishing I could buy Mannequins

Latest rumor this weekend, not from an official source, but from a friend who heard it from an outside vendor: Disney will quit selling PI APs "in the next 6 months." Jibes with the earlier rumor (I think from Another Voice) that WDW wanted out of the business of running PI by the end of the year.

Obviously take this with a grain of salt, as well, but it's one more possibility floating around out there.

Well, I was in PI last night and asked the bartender what they were going to do with RNRBC and he said "a bowling thing" and I replied "you think?" to which he stated "I know".

The area isn't wide enough for a bowling alley unless it's going to have 5 lanes. The rumored bowling alley elsewhere in DD or WWS makes more sense.

According to my friend of a friend who is in WDI, Mannequins will close forever and be leased to a third party in about 6 months! No plans to put 8-trax in Mannequins. I am still waiting to see if Disney is putting any stipulation requiring that the club stay the same and/or stay open as it is or if the third party could end up gutting it and starting a new. YIKES.


This is somewhat upsetting, but not horribly. At this point there is at least a chance Mannequins will stay open but be under different management. Who knows, they could actually improve it since Disney doesn't seem to be interested in doing so. For now, I'd say this is positive news.

Well it make some sense that if there is only going to be one dance club left standing that it be a club that plays a variety of music, perhaps different styles on different nights. There could be rock'n'roll nights, techno nights, 70's disco nights, etc. And it would also make a lot of sense to leave the revolving dance floor, no matter what music is being played. After all it is the one thing that makes the current Mannequins unique and often the one thing that brings people in. It's an attraction in itself so there is no need to go to the huge expense of removing it.

Conceivably there *could* be two bowling projects.. DTD *and* WWoS .. but a 5 lane alley at DTD makes almost no sense to me at all.

Hardly seems like it could generate enough revenue to cover the lease with so few lanes.

Well, May 17th is a Saturday. But did confirm that they will be closed beginning next Sunday and that they hope to have it back open by Thursday night.

yet another update from the front lines: PI has announced they are now going to be operating 8pm-2am with TAC running till 1am. While this doesn't seem like a big deal, it hurts the full time CMs who will not be able to achieve 40 hours anymore. hhmm


on a side note, I'm seriously considering starting a basic website, www.savepleasureisland.com dedicated to bringing attention to the changes that have already come to pass and the ones that have been predicted. I can open a cafe express store to sell bumper stickers and tshirts and with the help of the DIS members and my own knowledge of google marketing, I think I could make it fairly successful at least in terms of how many people are involved.

PI was Eisner's baby and he still holds a large chunk of stock. I wonder what he would say if he knew what they had planned.

Do you mean Island-wide 8 to 2 (except AC closing at 1)? While I understand cutting two hours off the AC's schedule (the place is dead after 1, and usually more kids than drinkers before 8), not sure what good it does the dance clubs to open an hour earlier. They usually don't get going before 11 anyway.

And agreed that is rough on full-time staff.

This would seem to go along with Screamscape's story yesterday of the CW shows being pushed later into the night (with the last show getting out around 2 on the weekends). Which, I guess, adds credence to the other rumor in that story--AC and CW both going 21+ only. If true, that's going to create a firestorm on-line.
