Please walk me thru a September Use Year Scenario

Help please this always confuses me
I buy a contract with a September use year can someone walk me thru the important dates.
so if I book a trip from September 29th 2021 to October 4th (just an example) will this count as using my 2021 points? Or will this go into my 2022 year?
when can start making reservation at home resort?
when must points be banked by if not being used?
any other important dates I’m not understanding relating to a September use year?

September UY means your points go from Sept 1 to Aug 30 with the year being the start year (ie Sept 1 2020 means the 2020 year).

That would be your 2021 UY and you could have banked points from 2020 UY or borrow 50% (at least for now) from your 2022 UY.

You can always make reservations 11 months out at your home resort or 7 months anywhere else. UY has zero to do when you book and only what points get used.

You have to bank 4 months before point expiration which for September would be April 30th.


Nothing specifc to your UY but if you cancel within 31 days of your reservation points go in to holding and can no longer be banked.

Bookings are always night by night for the points they use. So what's in your 2020 UY (Sept 1, 2020-Aug 31, 2021) will need points in your 2020 UY whether banked, current or borrowed into that UY. And any nights Sept 1, 2021-Aug 31, 2022 will needs points from your 2021 whether they are banked, current or borrowed into that UY. You also cannot book a reservation online that crosses the UY. A CM can if you call in.

Your yearly points become available each September 1.
If you want to bank points to the next year you have until April 30.
After April 30 you must use your points or lose them by August 31.
If cancel a reservation within 30 days of checkin they get held & must be used by August 31 & can’t be banked.
If you cancel a reservation more than the month from checkin you can still bank as long as isn’t passed that April 30 date. Otherwise have to still be used or lost by August 31.
Banked points have to be used in the next use year September 1 to August 31 & can’t be banked again.
At home resort can book the 11 months out and that booking date must be at a point where you would have points available. (From banked, the current year, or pulled from the next year).

Yeah, I just don't love this language.

For a Sept UY, your 2021 pts are valid for stays from Sept 1, 2021 to Aug 31, 2022.

If the OP is planning a stay for Sept 29, 2021, then that stay falls within the 2021 UY.

If the OP needs 20 extra points from their 2022 UY to complete that stay, they can borrow those points when they call or go online to book on Oct 29, 2020. There is no waiting for points to "become available..."

I have a Sept UY and I think of it as a school year. So my 2020 points are good for the 20/21 school year and summer of 2021. Technically we start school in early August here, but since I am teacher, we cant really travel in August anyway!

If you think Sept is awkward, try Dec. Everyone else is talking about the upcoming year (like 2021) and you are just getting to the start of your UY on Dec 1.
