I called CRO this morning to apply my Christmas bonus to my existing reservation at the POLY GVCONC. After a lengthy conversation with a very helpful CM, I switched to GF Sugarloaf with an upgrade to a marina view. With the AAA discount, I'm paying $300.00 more for the week than POLY.

Did I make a mistake? I don't know much about GF so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I should also mention DH never liked the decor or food offerings in CONC, Ohana's or Kona so it will not be missed.

Thanks!

I think you will be happy. The GF is a beautiful place, and you will have a spectacular view. Narcoosees is a nice place to eat, and 1900 Park Fare has the best breakfast buffet around. and for only $300 more for the week, it never hurts to try something new. You know your likes and dislikes.
For my husband and I, the Poly is more our taste. We are very laid back, so the atmosphere better suits us, and we also really enjoy both Kona Cafe and 'Ohana. My husband says he always feels as though he needs to be dressed up when visiting GF, so I don't expect we will ever stay there. Oh well, I can live vicariously through others who do.

Have a great time, and look forward to a full report when you return!

This was my first trip to WDW and I had reservations for the Poly at first. But then I switched to the GF and I am SO happy I did. When we arrived at the GF we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. On of our favorite things to do was to just relax in the lobby and listen to the music. We were in Conch Key which is right next to Sugar Loaf. Sugar Loaf is in a great location also because it's close to the main lobby. Anyway, our room was absolutely beautiful as well, it was in the Alice in Wonderland decor and we also loved our balcony. We had a dormer room which a garden view and it actually also overlooked the lagoon. In my opinion, the GF was so charming and beautiful.

The GF also has the Grand Floridian Cafe which has wonderful and delicious desserts. There's also Citricos, Narcoosee's and the Garden View Lounge where you can go for afternoon tea, which is very relaxing. The GF is a wonderful and beautiful resort, I don't think you've made a mistake at all. Like I said before, I had also had reservations to stay at the Poly but then switched to the GF. I was worried too that I made the wrong decision. But I can't tell you how happy I was that I did. To me, the Poly just wasn't for me. It seemed dark and depressing and it didn't seem nearly as beautiful as the GF. A lot of people say that the GF is stuffy and whatnot but I didn't think so at all. The CMs were very friendly and the CM at the front desk was determined to get us the room we had requested even though we told her it was ok and that we would take another room. The CM and manager wanted us to be happy with our room. I truely think you've made the right decision.

I hope you have a wonderful trip and make sure to report back! :D
