Good Afternoon Everyone !:wave2: I am a slightly "older" person, soon to be age 56. I am not too familiar with this thing called an IPOD. I recently got a new job, better salary, for which I am grateful, but we are not allowed to listen to headphones on the job. I dearly miss MY music, and especially listening to the Podcast while at work. I just asked the dear younger person who sits behind me, if she has an IPOD. ( Of course she does, LOL ) She showed me how it works.

So how do I use an IPOD for The DIS Unplugged? My Podcast comes up in
Windows Media Viewer. My co-worker says it would grab the whole podcast in seconds ! Is that true ??? I would be able to listen to the podcast while I am doing my walking program at lunch time. While listening, I would need to be able to pause the show, and pick it up again in the same spot where I left off.

So please teach me ...... How exactly would I do this for the Podcast?

This would open up a whole new world for me. LOL !

Thanks In Advance !

:hippie: Hi Claudia-

Since I am an almost 57 year old person who loves my iPod to death, I will give you a brief and hopefully helpful introduction to it.

First just go out and buy it - trust me you'll love it. You'll get the cable to connect it to the USB port on your computer - you'll do this to charge it and also to download podcasts, music etc

Second - go to itunes.com and install the program onto your computer - after you have it installed, on the main page on the lefthand side you'll see "podcasts" in a list - click on that and then do a search for disunplugged - subscribe to it and it will automactically download the current installment to your computer ,you can then go back and download older episodes if you like.
You can also search for other Disney podcasts as well as what ever hobbies you might have. There are 1,000 of podcasts and they are FREE. Also don't forget the music every week they have "free" songs you can download too.

Third - go to Apple.com and download and print the user manual for the model of iPod that you bought. The iPod comes with next to nothing as far as documentation - it'll come in handy to have a printed copy of instructions in the beginning.

Forth - plug your iPod into your computer - the itunes program should appear on your screen when you do. Open the section marked podcasts At that point you can just click & drag the podcast to your iPod list.

I know it all sounds like gibberish, but trust me you'll love it. I hope you get one and if you nedd help - just PM me and I'd be happy to help you out, I'm no "expert" but I'll help as best as I can.

Since no one has replied to you, I'll start off, but I'm not the one to provide a lot of detail.

With an iPod, you download all of your music and everything from iTunes. This is Apple software that you download to your computer. iTunes is the only way you can get things onto your iPod.

You would get the podcast through iTunes too - instead of the regular link where you go now to listen to the show. You would set up a subscription through iTunes to get the show everytime there was a new one.

Oops - Marilee beat me to it. Hope this helps though, at least with the basic concept.

Oh dear ............. :scared: I'm not so sure of this. Because this is my work computer ....... I am not allowed to actually install ANY unauthorized programs. I didn't realize that I would have to install a program to do this.

You mean I just cannot bring up the Podcast, plug the IPOD in, and then have it recorded ???

Sadly not, you're going to need iTunes or an equivalent to put the podcast onto your iPod :(

:goodvibes

This might seem to be an odd question, but do you have a computer at home? Forgive me if I'm being too simplistic, but if you have a computer at home, you can download itunes and load up your ipod when you are home. Then you just carry the thing with you at all times (mine might as well be attached by umbilical cord) and listen at will.

Forgive me if you already knew that :)

I do not have a computer at home - HOWEVER - I do have WebTv,
(also known as MSN Tv ) which means you can get internet and e-mail on my TV set. OK - At least, I know I am able to listen to it at home, so all is not lost. I won't be able to down load from the Web Tv, into an IPOD to use it at work. BUT ..... one of these days I want to get a "Real"
computer that does all the fancy kinds of things that you people do with it.

My simple Web Tv I love, but it does so much less than a computer.
I know that I would just love all the neat things I could do with a computer.

And that is not an odd question at all !

Thank You all for the help ( and lessons )

Glad we could help -

I guess we all know what's going to be #1 on your Wish list now

Do you have a friend or neighbor who has a computer. Or perhaps that girl who sits next to you at work. Maybe they could either load the ipod for you or you could go visit them - Cake in hand - and borrow theirs every now & then to download.

You know ..... Marilee .... I never thought
about asking someone else to download it for me. Good Idea!

Being an Apple retail buyer, i can't believe i am saying this, but you can get an non-apple brand MP3 player. Many work kind of like a USB/FLASH/Thumb drive, and you only need to drag and drop an .mp3 file of the podcast to the player (which can be plugged into any usb port.)

I believe that you can download the mp3 format files right here on the DIS uplugged blog page. I know at work, that I can't install programs, but we are ok to download and transfer a file to this type of storage devise, since it isn't staying on the machine. You can also do the download and transfer (drag and drop) at a friend's home.

Here are a couple of options, I am not endorsing, since I have had an ipod for the last five years.
Creative Zen Stone (comes in several colours)

Although you might want a player with a display so you can sort the podcasts.
Creative Zen V or a Refurbished Edition of the same.

I can download right to my ipod touch without connecting to my computer. You may be able to do the same thing at home.

Different question but maybe someone knows (I'm even older than Claudia and Corky, sometimes even amaze my young neighbors by playing Wii and using an I-Pod) - but, today's questions.

I just got an Apple MacBook.
I have I-tunes on my old computer (and on the new computer, but the old computer has all the music/podcasts, etc.).

and I have an I-Pod.

Last night I plugged the I-Pod into the new computer thinking there must be a way to just tranfer over the music - but the only option I saw was to 'sync' which would sync the new computer to the I-Pod (not want i want to do). Actually I'd like to "sync" the I-Pod TO the new computer.

Any suggestions???

I'm a real Apple newbie - this is the first time I've used one and I only got it Saturday - basically so i can see my niece's new baby - gotta figure out how to do that too, but one thing at a time (:

thanks!!!

Hi Stacey!!

Sorry Lois - I haven't a clue :confused3

But I am oh soooooooooooo jealous about your new Macbook

I can't wait to figure out how to use it better (:

Apple has one-on-one meeting you can set up with tech support guys in the store (extra $$$ of course), but my sister said it was worth it. So I have to write down things I want to learn so I remember what they are and then make an appointment.

But I figure this I-Pod thing seems like it should be easy :confused3

Hi Stacey!!

There is a product called CopyTrans that will transfer anything on your iPod onto your new computer -not sure how it works for Mac, but I know it is capable. I used this when my hard drive crashed with no problems. It seamlessly copied everything from my iPod and organized it into the iTunes library -music, podcasts, games. There are other programs out there as well, but I can vouch that this works. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

*** iTunes will allow you to transfer any purchased music from your iPod directly into iTunes without buying this software -but that's it, nothing off cd's you may have loaded

As long as you have wifi access you can subscribe to DisUnplugged through iTunes and download the podcasts directly to your iPod Touch, without using a computer. Just use the "iTunes" icon on your iPod, search in "podcasts" for the DisUnplugged then subscribe. You can also download individual podcasts.

It's really easy to do and you'll have the hang of it in no time! You can even post on the Dis with your iPod Touch - which is what I did here!:goodvibes

...and they may seem stupid, but I'm really clueless.

Can you only download Disunplugged podcasts from itunes? I don't have an ipod, but I have an mp3 player. Would I still be able to download the podcast to my non-ipod player?

Yes, it's true, I've never listend to a Disunplugged podcast! I started frequenting this forum because of the Animal Crossing thread (Hi Lois!), but I always see everyone talking about how wonderful and funny the podcasts are and I'd love to get in on that action! :goodvibes I just need some step-by-step instructions (and sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread).

TIA!
Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

You can download the podcast to itunes on your computer and listen to it that way.
